Don't waste your time or money on Pine Bungalows. It was recommended in our well-known travel guide, but things have certainly gone downhill.

We went to Pine Bungalows with a week-long reservation. We were looking forward to a nice escape to peace and quiet along the Athabasca River. We wanted to hike and spot wildlife by day and relax by the woodburning fire by night. No TV, no radio, a rustic cabin in the woods....sounded ideal.

As experienced backpackers, hikers, and cabin-dwellers, we know what to expect from certain accommodations. However, this place is overrated and very poorly maintained. At $150/ night, we were promised a basic but cozy cabin by the river. What we got was a run-down shack with dirty, damaged laminate floors. The cabin was so far removed from the river that we couldn't see it or hear it. The bed linens and towels were unclean, and there was a sign above the sink reading "$5 charge for all unwashed dishes." So, we're hoping the previous guest did a nice job cleaning the plates.

The room was full of mosquitos due to the 2" gap in the front door, and the dank smell was overwhelming.

When we expressed our concerns with management, we did not get an apology. We let them know we would not stay as the accommodations were unacceptable. We provided my cell phone number for contact information for any questions. No one attempted to call us on that number. The individual working the front desk refunded my husband's credit card. 6 weeks later, a charge on my credit card appeared for the night we cancelled. (I had provided my number when we made the reservation 4 months earlier.)

In addition to the poor property management, their business practices should be examined.

The collection of wooden bungalows amonst the Pine Trees next to the river is so 'next to nature'. A good sized room with heating and fridge. Very peacful and best if you like spotting the wildlife around you. Only minutes from the heart of Jasper town and it's shops & restaurants.

Mornring walk discovered a herd of Elk on the river bank opposite. Squirrals playing up and down the trees and plenty of birds from Kingfishers to Nuthatches.

A really good base for lots of activities and sightseeing.

Will definately go back.

For the past 40 years, my family had been journeying to the mountains and stayed at the little log cabins next to the river. With a planned family visit from England, we booked two cabins for 6 nights. We were hoping to enjoy the great outdoors and the facilities. My husband and I were both very upset to find that the room service in Pine Bugalows has deteriorated to drastically low levels. Our bathroom sink and tub was never cleaned in the 6 days we were there. We had to ask repeatedly for clean towels, toilet paper and coffee/tea for the coffee maker. Although the 'quiet time' had been posted for 10 pm, guests in one cabin were allowed to laugh and talk loudly until the wee hours of the morning. Then the next night, as our family gathered around the barbeque to cook a meal, we were approached by an individual who did not introduce himself and began warning us about the fireban which was to take affect the next day after we had been warned by a member of the Pine Bungalows staff that we could cook our meal then put the fire out. This individual also blamed the loud, boisterous talking the previous night on us when we were in our beds trying to sleep! We later found out from the Park Warden that that person was the owner. I am sad to say that after more than 30 years, I will never be returning to Pine Bungalows again. I would not recommend staying at Pine Bungalows if you are there to enjoy yourself.

We have stayed at the pine bungalows for a week each year for the past 5 summers, and it has been amazing each time. The service is incredible from booking to check out. The cabins are beautiful. We have 2 small children so we typically stay in the old style 2 bedroom. They are beautiful cabins set in the pine forest. No TVs just pure nature. Always clean and quiet. The cabins are along the Athabasca river with a nice walking trail along the river.

We stayed here for 5 nights on a recent trip to jasper and loved it. We had one of the older bungalows that looked out onto the river - it was peaceful and quiet but only 5 minutes from Jasper town centre.

We used the barbecue on a couple of occasions which helped the budget, and saw plenty of wildlife strolling through the grounds (none of it made an appearance in the cabin though!). The bungalows are positioned so that you have a bit of privacy which is nice too.

The cabins are quite rustic, the decor a little dated, but everything was clean, comfortable and warm. The heater was a bit noisy overnight, but once we'd got used to it (and tired ourselves out during the day) we stopped noticing it. Slightly fluctuating water temperatures in the shower, but a small price to pay for an excellent location and price.

Would thoroughly recommend the Pine Bungalows, and would stay here again on a return trip - it was a really enjoyable stay.

We stayed here in late September 2006 in a riverside cabin (no. 2). I was a bit wary after some of the previous reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's basic, but then it doesn't pretend to be anything else. It was spotlessly clean, very comfortable. There's a heater in addition to the fire. The owners request that there are no loud noises after 10:00pm and everybody respected that, though noise wasn't a problem before 10:00pm either.

There's a barbecue and picnic table with riverside walks to work it off. We weren't troubled by mice, (mentioned in a previous review), but I have to say that I think if you book a log cabin in the middle of the countryside, you can't really complain too much if some of the wildlife decide to pay you a visit.

It's only a few minutes drive into Jasper where there are supermarkets, drug stores etc.. Jasper's (understandably) a bit touristy, but somehow still manages to have a really nice laid-back feel to it. There's also a wonderful First Nation's craft shop called "Our Native Land" which is well worth a visit. I'd also recommend the drive to Maligne Lake.

If we're ever in the area, we'd definitely stay at Pine Bungalows again.

Pine bungalows is a rustic cabins.
They are great and it is very peaceful and quiet.
You are right on the river and can sit in the sun, on the river bank and enjoy your morning coffee.
Pine bungalows are a tranquill retreat.
No noise, no TV, no telephones, which is great to get away from it all.
They are in a central location close to Jasper and just about everything else.
When we did have a problem, they were very quick to fix it, the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The staff were wonderful, always smiling, willing to help, of the many places we stayed, the staff here are above the cut.
They were so polite and go all out to make your stay excellent.
We loved the rustic setting.
They have a fireplace, which is very nice in the evening, for a romantic dinner.
The place was clean and linen was changed whenever you asked, they could not do enough to help you.
They had a ice machine and on site laundry which were very convenient.
The owner Micheal, was hands on, very helpful and friendly.
We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend you give it a try.
If you are looking for a great location in a quiet area.
