Pine Bungalows is a cabin get-away that my family has partaken in annually since before I was born (sometimes more than annually). We have been coming here more than 46 years in a row now. Pine Bungalows is a retreat in the centre of nature that is comfortable and cozy. Some cabins have log fires within the cabin but most are changing to heaters now. Cabins are equipped with kitchens (I think some do not have kitchens but I have never used them) and all you need to stay in Jasper for a week or more at a time...soap, bath gel, dish soap, etc. Each cabin has or is close to a picnic table and outdoor fire pit and the staff often drop off firewood left from other pits if they see you are enjoying outdoor fires...they strive to meet your needs.
Another thing I love about Pine Bungalows is the location I alluded to earlier. Pine Bungalows strives to not disrupt the natural order of their environment. Wild animals are equally at home on their property as the humans who enjoy watching these wild animals. I have seen an american black bear quickly (amazingly quickly) swim from an island in the middle of the Athabasca River and scamper up the Pine Bungalows side near cabins 7-10. I have never had a visit when no elk appeared on the property. In fact, they often sit out by cabin 32 and just hang for the entire day!!! Squirrels, chipmunks, ground-squirrels, etc. are regular inhabitants. I stress that anyone mobility impaired (I have severe arthritis) who cannot escape to the backcountry hikes for animal viewing will love sitting in the window-seat, reading a book as you take in the wildlife right outside your window, or doing the same from one of the many benches along the river's edge. Not only is the location animal friendly due to their policy of non-interference with nature (no paved paths ruining the forest floor) but it is also situated right outside of town so you feel far away in the midst of a forest, but are actually minutes from town (a good walk away in fact!)
Pine Bungalows has comfortable but basic amenities and I love the escape that their no phone, TV and internet offers. Cleaning staff are friendly and strive to not interfere with your daily routine so sometimes one has to request something (floor cleaning, bed making) or they will be in and out. When you make a request they are more than accommodating but rather than complain, just ask (I write that after reading other comments so this is a tip for you...)
They supply a cabin for laundry and supply soap and fabric softener for a great price. Ice is available there too. I love that Pine Bungalows hosts a weekly naturalist talk on their site so if you are too tired to go to the campground naturalist talks, you will learn from one at Pine Bungalows.
I highly recommend Pine Bungalows to anyone who enjoys nature but is not a tent camper; anyone who loves being one with nature but also enjoys indulging in the art, shopping and dining that Jasper township offers; appreciates a family get away in the mountains equipped with full kitchen/cooking amenities; enjoys easy hikes along the Athabasca River; appreciates a bargain as the location is directly across from the Jasper Park Lodge but does not accompany the crazy bill upon checkout!!
We always stay in cabins 32 and 31 and I recommend anything facing the Athabasca River—you forget th...
