“The rooms were great, but everything else not so good...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

We stayed there for 1 night. The rooms are nice and the beds are comfy. At least the ones we had. We also had a great view - right out to the glaicer. In the evening we had dinner at the restaurant, but it was really really BAD and very expensive. Both compared to the dishes and in general. So don't eat there....

Room Tip: Pick the rooms that face the glaicer - I think it's the west side but I'm not sure. Theese r...

We travel from Calgary to Athabasca Glacier in 1 day, and slept in this great hotel. When we wake up, we went to the glacier and was a great trip!!
The room had 3 beds, 2 singles upstais and 1 double downstairs. The bathroom is great, has a bath and the shower is really good.
We had lots of luggage, and the hotel has elevator, so we don't had much work.
The only con, don't have breakfast, but there's a restaurant to buy.
I recommend!

We stayed at this hotel June 11, so took advantage of their cheaper rate of $129 CDN a night. (high season - June 15- Sept. 15 is $100 more a night). The hotel is located just inside the south border of Jasper National Park in Alberta on the Icefield Parkway between Banff and Jasper. The Inn occupies the 3rd floor of the Athabasca Glacier Centre. A big restaurant is on the second floor. This site is where the Athabasca Glacier pours out of the mountains relatively close to the highway. If you have never been to a glacier, it is an awesome sight - ice and rock only . You get a feel for what the last ice age was like.

Definitely take the ice coach tour. It takes you onto the glacier - a once-in-a-lifetime experience. There are walking tours also, and you can walk yourself pretty close to the toe of the glacier. The rooms are big, new and spotless with a TV but no fridge. The best part is that you can lay in your bed and stare at a magnificent snow -covered mountain.Take binoculars since you can see skiers coming down that have walked up there! All in all, a glacier is a mountain must-see. Couple from Calgary

.

Room Tip: Ask for a glacier view room. Get a 3 event pass for the Ice Coach, the Sulphur Mt. gondola and the...

The glacier view inn is a magical place to stay. The rooms were very good. After around 6-7 pm when all the tourist leave the place has such a secluded quiet ambience. Sitting on the deck on the second floor was an amazing experience. The glacier filled mountains around us, a lonely road running through and the quiet. No wifi no cell phone coverage.

A beautiful experience in all.

Room Tip: The glacier view rooms have great view but can get a little chilly at night.

While bicycling from Jasper to Banff, there were very few choices of where to stay and we were not disappointed. We had a glacier view room with a loft for my daughter. She loved having her "own" digs. The room was clean and comfortable and I was surprised at the reasonable price ($130). No wifi, but it was probably a good thing to go without our electronic toys for 24 hours. Take the first glacier coach of the day and you won't have to deal with the crowds from the tourist coaches that arrived one right after the other. The Glacier Dining Room was also very good with a large garden salad that was truly a garden salad (not a bowl full of iceberg lettuce). Soup of the day and clam chowder were also very good. I'm sorry to read that some guests did not have a good experience. We certainly did and found our accommodations better than those we had in Jasper for the same price.

This inn is convenient for exploring the glacier in the early morning hours before the crowds arrive. It is exceedingly dark, quiet and clean. There is a rather un-large window available for viewing the glacier from that side and this is a must have if you are considering staying here. The loft units are nice but also expensive as is everything in this remote environment. Not unlike Tibet in the lack of available amenities. In fact the glacier is the only available attraction, however, having said that, it is probably the only glacier that is this accessible in the entire world and that atones for the lackluster hospitality. Security is an issue here, or lack of, since there is no separation between the public areas and the hotel which is located one floor above the restaurant. To sum up, since the linens are transported to Jasper for cleaning, the best bet is to stay in Jasper at a five star hotel for the same price and visit the Icefield at your leisure.

Room Tip: Demand a room with a view of the glacier there are always vacancies. There are no fitness facilitie...

Thank you for taking the time to send us your comments regarding your latest stay at the Glacier View inn.

First off I agree that viewing the Glacier on your own time without the tour crowds is a wonderful experience. I do hope that you also had a chance to explore our Glacier Gallery while you we here, as it does have excellent information about the glaciers and surrounding enviornment.

As for security we have staff on duty 24/hrs a day which regularly patrol the building, and to answer the phone at any time to ensure the saftey of our guests.

Thank you again for your comments

Arrived at 2.00 pm for a 4pm checkin(not stated on paperwork) rooms not ready even with 11.00am checkout. We booked 2rooms in oct 2011 never given an option of glacier room and defaulted!!!! To mountain view (read garbage bins).booked 9.30 glacier ride had early breakfast went to pick up tickets at 9.00 only to be told we had to wait till 10am as japanese tour had booked out 9.30. 1 st in queue for 10am tour to be sidelined again for another Japanese group.when we stated it was impossible to check out at 11am with 1.20min tour were grudging allowed11.30 check out what was to be a highlight of our rocky mountains holiday was totally spoilt by our treatment at this hotel. Would never recommend to anyone to stay just do the ice explorer which was terrific then head to Jasper or Banff.

Room Tip: Ask for glacier room when booking
