I came up with this title/thought while staying at Beckers. No one at the front desk seemed capable of cracking a smile. And less than helpful would be complimenting their behavior. The vibe was that this person was doing us, their guests/paying customers a favor by just being there to make sure that we really were booked and deserving of a chalet key.
Then, our romantic "deluxe log chalet for two" had a memorable view...of a blindingly bright play set...most likely used by the owner/manager's children. Why would any couple on a romantic Rocky Mountain retreat booked into a "deluxe log chalet for two" want to see a swingset?
The cabins were densely spaced leaving no sense of privacy. Close the curtain and there goes what little lovely view there is. Close the door to your next door neighbor's living sounds and out goes the sound of that raging river...which really does sound nice.
The location along that raging river is beautiful. I'm sure that having a cabin along the river is quite perfect. Having a cabin anywhere else, though, leaves a lot to be desired.
The amenities are nicely presented. The sign above the kitchen sink announcing a 10CND charge for unwashed dishes was an extremely tasteless touch.
I came away feeling like Beckers was in the throes of schizophrenia. On one hand it wants to be all upscale and yuppie. On the other hand it charges for unwashed dishes and gives romantic couples a view of the uber bright swingset. Beckers needs to decide which way it's going and then add more fluff to the towels, remove the swingset and find a more tactful way to advise clients that a sinkfull of dirty dishes is unacceptable.
And, I'd really like to feel like they'd like to have me make a dinner reservation.
