Stayed here for several nights and didn't want to leave. The location is beautiful. Loved waking up and relaxing by the river. Plenty of wildlife in the area. Restaurant was only so-so for breakfast but who cares. Stayed in duplex chalets in back. Quiet, very comfortable, and exceptionally clean. Nice to be outside of town but so close that you can be there in minutes. Would highly recommend Becker's to my friends and I would definitely stay there again if I'm lucky enough to go back to Jasper.

Becker's Roaring River Chalets

We (three adults) spent three weeks touring Western Canada and stayed in a variety of accommodations. None, however, compared to the truly awful chalet we were given for a three-night stay at Becker’s Chalets.

The chalet, known to us as “hut 2”, was cramped, dark, with old and shabby furniture and fittings. It looked nothing like the pictures in the brochure sent to us by the management. The two bedrooms were so small that they could barely accommodate one double bed in each room – since there was no space there were no cupboards, closets/wardrobes, drawers or bedside tables nor were there any elsewhere in hut 2 which laughably was supposed to accommodate 5 people. The fifth bed in the sitting area was a fitted structure that was approx. 5’6” long, far too small for an adult. One bedroom door was a plastic folding type – there was not enough space for a proper hinged door. The bathroom wasn’t any better with the basin being badly chipped, the mirror worn around the edges and the shower long overdue for replacement. The sitting area also cramped, old and tatty, was so depressing and the dreadful smell, which we assumed was caused by stale smoke, was literally sickening.

The was, however, one positive and that was the restaurant. The menu was interesting with the food well cooked and the staff helpful but there is no need to stay in Becker’s Chalets to be able to eat here!

“Disappointing”

Becker's Roaring River Chalets

mostly disappointing - had just come from sweet cabins in Lake Louise but these were truly just motel rooms encased in fake log exteriors. Rooms were not vacuumed each day and even tho they promise you a fireplace, they charge for the wood which to me is the epitome of cheapness and have never come across that before. A starter log or first nite free wood would've been simple enough for them and made a difference in our feelings about the place. There's also a big sign above the sink saying there is a $10 charge for unwashed dishes - not a welcoming sign to look at each day - could've said so in their guest info book, or said in a nicer way.No lamp by each side of the bed, no decor whatsoever, and as another reviewer said, it is odd and annoying to have the bible so prominently displayed on the firelace!
Restaurant is not gourmet - anyone that still puts cornflakes on frozen fish is not gourmet.
Clearly I was unhappy - the only saving grace was the herd of elk that came outside our room each nite - but come by and see them without staying there!

“A great place to stay!”

Spent the first 3 nights of our honeymoon at Beckers, arriving late afternoon 16 September. The staff was very nice and welcoming.

On the upside - the property is only 5 minutes from Jasper. It's a quick and direct ride to the town proper. We saw elk every day we drove to town, either for breakfast or for dinner. The property is well signposted, would be hard to miss driving down the highway. The rooms were very clean, ours had a balcony and a couple of chairs for sitting and relaxing while looking at the mountains. Firewood is available for $5 a bag; the fireplace worked like a charm. No smokey smells in the room at all. We were in the duplex (upstairs) and the room was nice and quiet.

There was an iron and and ironing board in the room, should one require one. Also had a hairdryer in the bathroom, and a television that picked up somewhere around 8 stations.

We did not eat in the restaurant, perferring to go into town evey day, but again, it's only 5 minutes from town and not inconvenient at all to run into the town for a meal.

The property is right by the river, one day we had a picnic watching the river and the rafters. It was a bit chilly, but the views were wonderful.

On the downside, the beds are hard. Not a complaint, just a fact.

We met some folks at checkout that had been staying at Beckers annually for the past 10 years. We definitely would go back, given travels in this area again.

    • Liked — Convenient to our planned hikes and to town; in a scenic setting
    • Disliked — only breakfast choices are a hot or cold buffet; we aren't big eaters and would have liked other breakfast options

Becker's Roaring River Chalets are situated a short drive from Jasper. There are no nearby shops or restaurants other than what is available within the grounds of Becker's Chalets. The restaurant is an expensive alternative when you travel with three children. I don't now why a "gourmet" restaurant is required at a place like this. You also have to pay an extra $5 to hire a barbecue. You would expect this service to be included, but on the upside the barbecue was delivered to our door spotlessly clean and with all the equipment we needed.

The grounds around the chalets were very well kept and there is a big playground for the children. There is also more than enough space to play ballgames, etc.

The chalet itself was spotlessly clean, well-equipped and cosy. It had a small balcony with a couple of chairs and a table. All in all a nice stay but would have liked it more if they had a "family restaurant", in addition to their gourmet resturant.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The surrounding area and the clean accommodation.
    • Disliked — Although the gourmet restaurant offers take-aways, I would have preferred that they had an on-site family restaurant
