I visited the Delux Burger Bar in crestwood last night. I'd been hearing great things about it, and now realize that it was probably just advertising that I had been hearing.
I went for my boyfriend's birthday - he LOVES burgers and we'd been meaning to try this place out for awhile. I had hoped to make reservations but they told me over the phone they don't do that but that Monday nights are slower and I wouldn't even have to wait. Of course, we waited. But, not too long, maybe only 15 minutes.
So we get seated, the place is very nice inside, great style and colors and layout. But, we were there for the burgers and couldn't wait! My boyfriend and I got the Celebrity special (with jack cheese, bacon, banana peppers, and chiptole sauce on a whole wheat bun). The bun was great, very soft and fresh and put on the grill to toast it up! The burger, however, was totally boring and dull. I found my bacon was a bit under done - not as crispy as i expect in a burger. however the quality of the bacon was great - nice and thick.
The beef burger itself was WAY over done. One side of my burger was totally black and hard to chew. The other side was a bit better but still VERY dry. My friends all got different burgers (the Kobe, organic guilt free and veggie) and for the most part those were not as overcooked as mine... but there were definitley a couple burgers at our table that were definitely over cooked, and mine was completely black and dry, dry, dry. So, maybe I just had bad luck. But when pretty much all you sell is burgers and you sell them a la carte - they should be cooked perfectly, right?
In general I found that the bacon with the pickled banana peppers were a bit salty, but at least it tasted of something! Other than the bacon and peppers there was really NO flavour to the burger at all. So dissapointed.
On a positive note: we started our meal with a mixed green salad that comes served with the white balsalmic vinaigrette - this was wonderful. Light, summery, a bit tart but also a bit sweet with the really fresh mixed greens!! Yum! I would only suggest maybe adding cherry tomatoes instead of sliced hamburger tomatoes to the top.
We also did the combo sweet potato and regular fries side dish. It came with chipotle mayo (which i think could use a bit more kick or a little something, not sure what, but generally creamy and delicious). The fries were nice and think and seemed fresh cut. Very good, even if they were a bit on the soggy side. I think that was maybe from waiting to be served to our table for too long as they were not hot. Possibly they done before the burgers were maybe.
The service was GREAT. Our server was there whenever we needed her, was very organized and had a great attitude! She even brought my boyfriend out a mini cake made out of cotton candy with a candle in it as dessert for his birthday dinner. Very sweet. And then she provided him with a $10 gift certificate for his next visit!
All in all, with a coupon, we will probably return but try something other than the burgers (hot dogs or appetizers maybe). But, it's really just not worth the price they are charging. The flavours just aren't there. I'm embarrassed to say this but... I've had WAY better burgers at Red Robins.
If Delux started to maybe come up with daily specials (burgers on the menu for a cheaper price), increased the wow factor in their burger's flavor (and not just make a big deal about what they put ON their burger but make the actual burger itself delicious), I think I would be a returning customer. Until then, I'm still on the hunt for a great burger.
