Wanted to find an interesting place to buy lunch for a friend. Asked a friend of mine who is wired into the Asian restaurant scene to recommend a place, Lan's was his quick reply.
Located in a strip mall near NAIT, Lan's is family run. Tom at the front is a very engaging guy who gave us a bit of history of the place, took our order and recommended a beer from their selection. Based on my friend's recommendation we had the pad thai, the steak bites over coconut rice and the shrimp soup whose name I can't remember. We ordered them medium spicy which was the right choice for us.
The food arrived and was delicious. Generous portions that allowed me to do take out, too! after we were done Monica came by and sat with us. Since we are "friends of a friend" she shared the history of the restaurant and where she would like to take the place in the future.
it's easy to see that the combination of the food and the owners make for a very winning pairing.
More than we could put away at lunch plus a beer each (one Laotian and one Thai) came to $50.
I'll be back.
