“Very surprised! - In a good way”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2009

Stayed here on business for one night. I can only comment on the lobby and room as that is all I used. The lobby looks older and it it is true that this is in a very industrial area. The hotel is older and I was not expecting much when I got to my room, but to my surprise it was not only renovated, but looked brand new and very fancy. Not only that but they had bottled water and some fruit, cookies and treats there for me. I called down to ask if I would be charged for eating it, but they said it was free for priority club (rewards program) members. Sometimes in a renovated room, there are signs of oldness, particularly in the bathroom, this was not the case here, I thought I was in a fancy room in a brand new hotel.

The room was nice, clean and roomy. Had a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker and large flat screen LG tv. Yes, the hotel is in an industrial area, but if you looked it up on google maps you would know that. The location was fine for my purpose but if you want to be able to walk to near by restaurants or attractions look else wear.

I would recommend staying away from the breakfast buffet later in the morning especially if there are few people in the restaurant. The eggs were watery, french toast dry and sausage cold but I should have known better and ordered off the menu. It also made me chuckle when reading the lounge menu because 3 of the 5 "imported" beers are from Canada.

Booked from hotwire.com and for the price, it was great!

We booked this hotel online with an advanced booking, which gave us a great rate of $111 with all the taxes and charges. We recieved a $5 off coupon to use in the onsite restraunt, or lounge for being a priority club member. There where 2 bottles of water in the fridge. The room was clean newly renovated. The room had a nice view of the construction going on in the parking area. We where warned online about that while making the reservation. The staff where friendly. There where warm cookies and fruit out in the afternoon.

Would have been nice to know before making reservation that hotel is under construction. Should be very nice when done.
Parking somewhat of a pain because of this.
Poor location, not close to anything, almost always looking at a 15-20 minute drive to get somewhere.
Rooms are OK but nothing special. Could not control temperature in room and mattress was very soft.
PeeWee hockey tournament in town with 4 or 5 teams staying at this hotel. Young children running up and down hall, banging walls/doors, yelling, having fun. Calling the front desk didn't help. The next night it was the parents at 1230 am in the halls. Calling the front desk made things quiet for a little while.

I was in for one helluva surprise this week when i checked in to this hotel and found out that the rooms where renovated.

The desk is improved with modern 32 inch flat screen tv's, AMAZINGLY comfortable beds and modern washrooms.

I enjoyed the wireless internet and find that relaxing to check my emails from the bed.

Lastly I would like to write that i think that this is going to be a wonderful hotel once it is complete and to the management of the hotel you have done "a fantastic job"!

The building is a bland 1960s slab, of little architectural merit, located in a vast industrial area some distance ($20 cab ride)from Downtown. Its main purpose appears to serve the attached Convention Centre. Arriving off a late flight the reception staff could have been somewhat more welcoming than they were. The room was adequate and clean ,but the bathroom was small and could have been better lit. Coming back to the room at 15.30 one day it had yet to be cleaned and serviced although it had been done a couple of hours later. The restaurant was harshly lit and reminiscent of an industrial canteen - quite unwelcoming, and hence not used. There was a large bar that doubled as a lounge where, of an evening, the same menu as in the restaurant was offered and where most people seemed to eat. However, this room suffered from loud music and a proliferation of massive TV screens. The whole place seemed to be in a sixties timewarp and needing a makeover. As the Convention Centre appears to be starting a building programme perhaps this will also involve the rest of the establishment.

This Holiday Inn is located on the east side of Edmonton, in the middle of a barren industrial area. Do not expect any views from the hotel or anywhere near it, and there is nothing nearby that you can walk to and enjoy. I stayed at this property for three nights to attend meetings held at the hotel.

Here are some of the problems that I encountered at this hotel:

1. The elevators rattle, roll, and jerk like a bad amusement park ride. Expect mild whip-lash.

2. Throughout the lobby areas of the hotel (including the elevators), the latest love songs of the 1970s are constantly piped through the public address system.

3. The televesion in my room always took about 2 minutes to warm up. In those 2 minutes, the TV displayed nothing but psychedelic colorful diagonal lines. The psychedelia show matched well with the 1970s music.

4. My bed had an old fashioned multi-colored bed cover', instead of the new white covers now common at modern hotels. The multi-colored bed sheets matched well with the multi-colored diagonal lines on the TV.

5. The internet connection cable was on top of the dresser; the available power outlet was on the desk. My laptop had to sit on the dresser; my power cable had to dangle across the room to get to the power outlet; and I had to move the desk chair to the front of the dresser to be able to use the laptop. By the way, the power outlet was dangerously hanging out of its housing unit.

6. One of the lobby cleaning crew members thought nothing of vacuuming the meeting room that I was in. While the meeting was taking place.

7. The housecleanning crew thought nothing of banging on my room door to announce that they had arrived to clean the room. At 7:45am in the morning.

On the good side of things, the internet connection worked well and was included in the room rate, parking is plentiful and free, and the staff were generally professional (if a bit on the "we do not smile" side of the personality specrtrum. The Globe and Mail was delivered to the room door, and at least there is a restaurant and a lounge within the hotel, since there is nothing within walking distance outside the hotel.

Overall, a functional hotel suitable only for "I have to stay exactly here" type of occassions. Otherwise, look for alternatives.
