The staff is sincerely friendly and accommodating, the people who clean the rooms and bar/restaurant staff, too. It's in a great location for both downtown and park/river access. The rooms are simple if also interesting because of the round wall (I stayed in the cheapest room), but have all the trappings of luxury, from good TV's to great mattresses, duvets. I'm chemically sensitive, and they put me in a room with no sprays or perfumes, and it was a better situation than I've even had before in a hotel. I'm not even too keen on places like Hilton and so on........this managed the 5 star treatment without the ickiness of corporations. Felt personal.

Room Tip: If you're chemically hypersensitive, ask in advance that they use eco-friendly substances and no...

Lovely appointed rooms, spacious and comfortable beds. Conference facilities and restaurant, as well as food service was great. Also had a wonderful view of the greenery of Edmonton from the 16th floor. Definitely would recommend this place as somewhere to get away from it all, have some pampering, and be comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the city, not facing downtown

Maybe this was once an elegant hotel, but it is now very tired.
Furniture is chipped, scratched and worn. Rust in the bathroom and faucets cheap and dated.
Doesn't feel clean probably due to looking run down.
Good service overall.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floors and away from the elevator.

I was tempted to upgrade to the concierge level by the reviews on TripAdvisor for my recent three-night, conference-necessitated stay at the Chateau Lacombe, but in the end took a 'normal' room which was just fine. Bed was very comfortable (yet, why oh why do hotels pile needless pillows upon needless pillows instead of just providing two comfortable pillows??), room was dark and quiet, shower was good, TV worked. The wifi was quite spotty - probably need new routers or something and skype/facetime required that I stand by the door for marginal performance. I phoned to whine, but in the end just went down to sit in the lobby where the signal was good. While in the elevators, I heard people complaining about the speed of the elevators - rty walking up teh stairs was my only silent comment.

I was in this hotel recently after getting an extremely good deal on Hotwire. The lobby of the hotel is quite nice and spacious with lots of seating. Our room however was quite old and all of the furniture was scratched, chipped and almost falling appart. Everything from the TV, the bathtub and the desk looked like it had gone through several battles. Because we got such a great deal on the room it was worth it. However I would never stay in this room for the regular price.

Haven't stayed here in yeras, it used to be a Crown Plaza that was run into the ground but new ownership has reviatlized much of the hotel with more to come from what I can see. Have to say I only stayed in a concierge level room so all my comments are based on those rooms and I have no idea what the regular rooms are like so ask if they have been renovated if you plan to stay.
Location, Location, Location, I was attending a meeting at the Shaw Ceneter and it was only a few blocks away, parking was only $15 per night which is unheard of in most downtown hotels, valet $20 per day!
Checked in early, room was available, reception was very friendly with lots of smiles and eye contact which is very important to me and they passed with flying colors, no matter when I cam into the lobby I was greeted warmly.
Room was very nicely done, flatscreen TV with telus optics, high speed "TRUELY FAST internet and beautiful view of river valley, clean, nice size room, bathroom, high end amenities, tiled walk in rainshower with good bathroom lighting.
Concierge level lounge was dissapointing for food the first night but the second evening they really put on a very nice spread (Wed night is VIP night) and the first 2 drinks are no charge, continental breakfast was very nicely laid out with good coffee and lots of protien type items, Karim the Banquet manager was on hand to greet everyone and he was a pleasure to converse with. Belemays was very good service, drink and food, I did not try Laronge but everyone was talking up this revolving dinning room on the top floor saying food was spectacular.
Everyone I spoke to at the hotel truly loved the hotel its history and new managment, this hotel has it's own life / personality which is a rare find these days. By reading my other reviews you can tell I don't impress easily but this hotel was such a perfect fit for myself and you should give it a re-visit next time your in EDmonton. Let's call it a gem in the rough.

Room Tip: Concierge level and ask for a river view, you can;t go wrong with that choice!

We stayed at the Chateau Lacombe on our wedding night at were upgraded from our Concierge floor room to a suite. The staff did lots of small things to make our stay special. We highly recommend this hotel! It was a great place for us to stay before boarding Via Rail in the morning.
