“A Lovely Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2010

I just finished a 6 night stay at the hotel. And, it was wonderful.
This is a character hotel with lovely ambiance. The fixtures, furnishings and views are something to see!
I was there on business but wanted to have the best time possible. As a Fairmont member, I was able to use a 'coupon' for a suite upgrade. For my stay, I was in a very large suite. Two closets (one was a walk-in closet). Sitting room. Couch. Two televisions. It was spacious and clean. And, had a wonderful view of the river. I could not have been more pleased. Finally, I am very light sleeper, and I slept like a baby. It was quiet. The bed was comfortable, and the thermostats worked like a dream.
Parking was rather expensive. $28 per day. Valet and self-park were the same price.
The pool, hot tub, steamroom and sauna were good. But, were in need of some repair. The tiles looked a bit worn and some tiles were missing. Luckily, the pool area was rarely busy and I relaxed with few others. It was peaceful and serene.
I had room service on two occasions. The food and service was excellent. I would highly recommend it. My low fat blueberry loaf was so fresh--it must have just been popped out of the oven.
Overall, it was a great stay! I plan on staying there again if and when I visit Edmonton.

Most of the hotels represented by the Fairmont group are 'nice' hotels and appear to be elegant. Many have wonderful views and interesting architecture and are in premier locations. So are a lot of other hotels!

The bottom line is that unless you are going to spend the majority of your time IN THE HOTEL, it is really overpriced for what you get! US$300 and up per night (our room had two queens) and they then had the gall to charge you for internet and CDN$28 for one night of parking!

If you are looking for a very nice in Edmonton that is much more reasonably priced than the Fairmont McDonald and only a block from it, I would suggest the Westin!

We stayed at the Fairmont hotel MacDonald on the weekend. It was a great place I must say. From the time that we pulled up with the car it was great hospitality. Our receptionist was very pleasant and told us of events going around the city. We go to our rooms and they were flawless. After spending time in the city, we went for dinner in the Harvest Room and for the price and portion, it was very affordable. I live in the area, and I would come back here for special occasions. The only thing that I can say negatively is that the hotel does look old in the inside. But it does have the Fairmont look to it

Have stayed at the hotel on several occasions and am never disappointed in both service and style. Staff are very pleasant and helpful, Sunday brunch is the best and drinks on the Terrace in the summer is a sublime experience.

I really enjoyed this hotel. it is centrally located in downtown Edmonton and all my meetings were walking distance from the hotel. This hotel is perfect for business travellers. The staff were consistently cheerful and helpful. The gym contains several treadmills and bikes as well as a good array of dumbbells. Rooms were a very good size.

One word of advice: ask for a room in the back of the hotel. I moved rooms after my first night because of the unrelenting traffic and noise coming from the street. Once I moved rooms, I slept very well.

Prices for food were expensive but there's a great deli called Marcellos in the Telus plaza across from the hotel. Good place for breakfast.

One of the old Canadian Pacific hotels, this hotel is elegance and grandeur. Although the rooms show their age, the bathrooms are completely redone and spotless. The bed is superb and made for a good night sleep. The river valley view is outstanding. The food in the dining room is excellent and the hotel bar a treat. If elegance and friendliness is what you want, the room price is worth it.
