“Science and sweets”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013 via mobile

We had a wonderful meal. Starting off with a great wine picked by the friends who suggested this restaurant. They had it decanted well before our arrival, although the host expected that wine of a different year. Not sure where the disconnect was but enjoyed it anyway.
The spinach salad was really special with port pears, pinenut, blue cheese, garlic vinaigrette. The presentation perfect. We enjoyed the halibut with fermented ginger butter and would certainly choose it again. One person had what looked like a pear on their plate but was encrusted mashed potatoes shaped as a pear.
The finale was the dessert. Our friend, a frequent diner knew of a salted carmel ice cream that they sometimes make with liquid nitrogen. It was not on the menu but available and the most wonderful smooth ice cream I have ever had.

“Good Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Went here for the first time on our wedding anniversary. The waiter was excellent and knowledgeable about menu items and the food was cooked to perfection. We will definitely go again. We had one of the curved booth tables which was ideal for 2 people as we could sit side by side.

“Splendid surroundings great food, wine list is too Eurocentric.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

The Teatro restaurant used to be a bank in its former life. The inside decor retains some of the original opulent features and included them in what now becomes and open and spacious environment.

The menu has a good selection of food and there should be something for everyone's taste. the calamari starter was superb with fresh grilled calamari, cooked to perfection with a chilli aioli which was not too overpowering and gave just the right balance of heat and sweet. Venison medallions were cooked to perfection (for me anyway) and just the right amount of garnish to enhance the food and not fill the plate.

The wine selection was probably the only area where they could improve slightly. The selection is very Eurocentric with over 70 different French Champagnes on offer. This continues with 50 Burgundy Whites, 26 Bordeaux Whites and 52 other whites for a total of 128 French white wines. In contrast just 24 Canadian Whites and 44 USA, most of which have eye watering mark ups (a $45 bottle marked to $210 for example). The story continues with the other country wines where European wines dominate the list, even the great New Zealand Sauvignons and the Australian Shiraz's are relegated to one or two obscure makes. The reds fared equally badly with the French and European wines dominating again.

Lest I be accused of disliking French wines, then I must point out I love French wines, my personal cellar is a testament to that, but everything needs to be balanced and there are some fantastic notable USA omissions.

Teatro is clearly a great restaurant and well worth the visit, just wished they had been more open in their wine selection.

“Consistently great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

Tetaro's is a great experience - a good location for a romantic meal or one with friends. I've been here several times for special occasions and have never been disappointed. The service is always fantastic. On Sundays, you can bring your own wine which makes it a bit more economical.

“Teatro Not as good as I remember.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Went for dinner for a company function. The service was good. Could have been better. I had much better service there years ago. The food was fine but again....I went there for lunch many years ago and was more impressed with the food back then. The weird foam on everything (almost every entree had some) this time was not appetizing at all. I have had better food at much lower priced restaurants in the city.. Glad I didn't have to pay for this dinner. The drinks were excellent. This was suited for a company function.
