“Great Restaurant/Brew Pub Near Saddle Dome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

Being a tourist in Calgary and not knowing about many places to eat lunch, my husband and I were delighted to find a neat restaurant/brew pub tucked away on a corner near the Saddle Dome. We were delighted to find such an interesting menu and enjoyed a delicious lunch of roast duck on a sour dough bun, with slices of fig, radish sprouts, arugula, and cranberry boursin cheese that tasted outstanding! Their menu offered a variety of choices including some smoked items as well. Vagabond also has a great selection of craft beers including two of their own beers, Vagabond Chuck Pilsner and Conscription Red which we found were very good! The waitress was very friendly and she provided excellent service. We were also impressed that the owner and head brewer came out and talked with us for quite awhile sharing his passion for brewing beer and his love for his restaurant. I would highly recommend Vagabond and will be sure to stop by on our next visit to Calgary!

“Convenient pub-like option in Victoria Park”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

We go here because it is convenient, except on event-nights at Stampede Park, during which, Vagabond offers only a limited "Event-Menu". The food is good and includes fish and chips, poutine, pizzas, burgers, salads, etc. You can dress in a very casual manner, but on event nights, when people stop here on the way to a concert, things are dressier. The main problem is that Vagabonds need to figure out what it wants to be. The music can range from dance to heavy metal to country (sometimes with live musicians or a DJ). They were playing heavy metal and showing a football game on the screens during a recent ladies night, which was weird. The décor is dark and looks like a back alley, with graffiti and a skyline painted on the wall, which is interesting, but can look off-putting from the street. The dart board, pool table and TVs make it look sort of like a man-cave and it doesn't feel like a trendy downtown option, which means it doesn't fit-in with the high end condos in the area. It is not somewhere to go when you are dressed-up with your friends or your date. It also seems sadly quite empty on non-event nights, to the point that I hope, but wonder if, they are going to be able to last for very long.
