I'm an admirer of fine architectural structures of every variety, I don't admire this one. It is just plain ugly. My first rating attempt on Trip Advisor got rejected by the language police, likely because of the similarity I inferred between this bridge and certain lude toys that adults, mostly women, use for their enjoyment. When I heard last week that someone had vandalized it, smashing out several of the glass panels, I greeted the news with a round of applause.
As for useless, we already had perfectly fine, prettier, and better designed bridges at both 9th street and Prince's Island. Either one is within a 5 minute walk. They built the Peace Bridge at a spot where there's nothing of note on the south side of the river, and no pedestrian crossing on the north side. It's completely pointless. The City could have spent the $25 million building a bridge where we actually need one - perhaps between Crowchild Trail and Edworthy Park.
The icing on the cake is that it's dangerous. I came through it today and didn't notice until it was too late that the surface of the bridge isn't level - there's a 2 inch groove about 6 feet wide (or two very slightly raised sidewalks if you like). The grove bevels in at each end creating an unlevel surface that's very difficult to see and downright dangerous. Let's just say that I'll be off to the doctor in the next day or two for x-rays, and if anything is torn or broken, which I suspect it is.
I'd highly recommend for those who want to cross the river safely that you avoid this bridge.
