The Libertine is a place I would ultimately return to most likely. The beer special was Tin Whistle Peach beer, which was quite good. It was not sweet but had nice peach flavor. We ordered some of the "snacks" as appetizers, which were the scotch egg and pretzel. The place had a good atmosphere, and aesthetically pleasing menu. The food also looked inventive and great. We ordered the lamb baguette and duck club, with the sauce on the side. The appetizers never came. Our entrees came first. The lamb was not on a baguette, but rather a roll. It tasted good. We asked someone what happened to our appetizers. They said they would check on them. We asked them to get our server and suggested we should probably receive them but not have to pay for them. The server said they would be brought out and would be comped from the bill. They eventually came. The scotch egg was not a traditional scotch egg, but a soft-boiled egg fried in bacon pancake batter. It was good. The pretzel portion was quite small but also good. My wife's duck sandwich arrived with the sauce on it, so we had to get a replacement for that. The french fries are great. Also, the server then came off and suggested that since we ate the appetizers and "it looked like we enjoyed them," she thought we should just get them for 50% off. This was after her already telling us it would be comped. Basically, we were shocked and stared at her speechless. She then said, "You know what, I'll just go ahead and take them off the bill." It was one of the most audacious things a sever has ever done to me. If the service experience was better, I would have enjoyed the place much more.
