we recently stayed at the Fairmont Palliser in downtown Calgary, I was a bit skeptical considering some of the previous reviews...but we were pleasantly surprised. This hotel is from the golden era, and has been kept up quite nicely. Our room was a mini suite on the second floor, city view, absolutely spectacular and very elegant The lovely girl Midori at the front desk was so friendly and helpful and when we asked to have a room on a higher floor, she recommended this floor, as most of the rooms have been recently renovated, and she was right. Even though this hotel is on the higher end price wise, it was worth it....what a great treat. We would most definately stay there again.

Stayed in room 446 for 3 nights. Over looking a building site but that was O K .No noise. We had asked for a quiet room and that was what we got. Two double beds ,walk in wardrobe, nice bathroom, iron and board. Chair and footstool, desk and chair. TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and a newspaper left outside the door every morning. Every where clean. Centre of Calgary, two blocks from the C train. We stayed there on parade day of the stampede-excellent. Friendly staff.

Stayed at the Fairmont Palliser for 2 nights in May 2006, found it to be a very nice hotel, everything you would expect from the Fairmont chain, only downside is that it's a bit to big to have that really friendly atmosphere, but non the less enjoyed our stay

“Stately and gracious stay”

The Fairmont Palliser

It's not the first time we've stayed at the Palliser, and it certainly won't be the last. Although Check in wasn't as quick as it's been in past visits, the staff were pleasant and answered our particular requests. Our room was well appointed. The bathroom isn't spacious, but it was spotless and had lovely fluffy towels, bathrobes, and vanity products.

Dining room staff were polite and inobtrusive. The breakfast buffet was fabulous with the sweetest fresh rasberries I've had in years.

It's easy to see why The Palliser is one of (perhaps the best) place to stay in Calgary. Staff are gracious; the quality of food is outstanding; and the cleanliness and room appointments are exceptional.

The only caution is that the rooms overlooking the railroad tracks can be a bit noisy when the trains pass through. The rooms at the front of the hotel are hush-quiet.

“Fairmont Calgary”

This hotel is impressive as you walk into the foyer but if you have a car you need to drive into the multi-storey next to it (and pay yourself at a charge of $15 a day) and go on a very long trek back to reception - with luggage. This was our only real gripe as it would've been nice if the bellboy we spoke to on pulling up outside the hotel had offered to take our luggage for us. We're not infirm or even snobby, but when you pay to stay in a place like this, you expect the service.

We booked our room with Expedia for 72 pounds a night, which was cheap compared to the Fairmont in Banff or Jasper. Our room had a big high ceiling and a comfy bed, a chair to relax in and a desk. We were close to the top floor (9th) and we overlooked the railway, which didn't wake us up. But to be honest, there aren't really views to be had anyway.

The Sunday brunch was amazing! Pricey at $45 each but there was so much food, we didn't eat for the rest of the day! We also enjoyed dinner in the Oak Room.

It is centrally located in Calgary and good value for money at the price we paid.
