“So glad we spent the extra on Fairmont Gold”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Treated ourselves to a night away just the 2 of us and so glad we opted for Fairmont Gold. First of all we saved ourselves the hassle of parking and felt like celebs as we were greeted and checked in by the Valet, it was $30 but so worth it, especially on a chilly day. We were pleasantly surprised by our room on the 7th floor and even more tickled by our view, directly opposite the tower. The room was opulent and luxurious but in a modern way, no floral or brass thank goodness. Our bed was extremely comfortable and so were the pillows. There was a ton of space, plenty of seating, a huge walk in closet, the most luxurious hotel towels I've ever used and high end tea/coffee making. The only downside was the bathroom was on the small side and didn't have a soaker tub. However the cleanliness was q-tip clean and sparkling. Another thing we liked was we could open a small part of the window, there' nothing worse than a stuffy hotel room. We had turn down service which included a pair of slippers, a nice touch but would've been even nicer if there were 2 pairs.
The Fairmont Gold lounge is located on the Penthouse level. It too was furnished modern and opulent like our room. Everything was clean and in order and to share it with like minded guests was a welcome change. We sat for hours, reading our books, chatting and enjoying the tea/coffee, snacks, cookies, appetizers and desserts. Breakfast the next morning was more than we expected, with bacon, sausage, eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, croissants and lots lots more. The staff were all very friendly, cheerful and helpful. Checkout easy and simple using the tv and the highlight was calling Valet for our car! A truly wonderful stay, we will definitely return.

Room Tip: Fairmont Gold without a doubt - rooms on the outer side of the builder have city views.

The Palliser is an older "railroad" hotel but it has retained its elegance.

The lobby area is beautiful and two restaurants are available on the main level to satisfy your dining needs as long as you are not looking for inexpensive fare.

There are many other restaurants within a few blocks, many with outdoor seating.

Service in the restaurants is very good and the food selection is broad. Try the bison burger if you have never had one - excellent indulgence.

The exercise facility is very small and tired looking.

Rooms are clear and well maintained and the WiFi is very reliable - no issues logging in or maintaining connection.

I stayed here in both April and July and was treated very well during my stays.

Oddly enough, in April the bell staff could not provide me with directions to an Avis rent a car that was only a few blocks away.

Be aware, Calgary is not an inexpensive city to visit. Hotel room rates are significantly higher than both Toronto and Montreal.

Rooms was very big, could use a little updating though, old furniture and drapes on the windows. In room dining food was great and the Oak Room Lounge was a beautiful place for some cocktails. Staff was very firendly and the location is superb.

I recently attended a conference Sept 29-Oct 2 at the Telus Center in Calgary and chose this hotel for my stay. This hotel is situated centrally amongst shops and restaurants and easy walking distance within C-train, Calgary tower etc. My room was on the 4th floor, King bed and considered a renovated floor and I had no complaints other than it was abit warm and I could not open the window to my liking. Other than that the room was clean, bed was comfortable and clean.

There is free WiFi for President Club members which is a great asset. The staff were all friendly, helpful and courteous in all venues.

There is an awesome Death by Chocolate buffet on Monday nights which most of us drooled over however did not partake. One of the restaurant staff noticed our party drooling over all the chocolate creations on the buffet and gave us a little creme carmel sampling to take to our rooms describing it as the best there is and we all agreed. It was a very generous thing for her to do and we all appreciated it! We did have our breakfasts ( a la carte) in the hotel and service was prompt and good food.

I did not use the gym or the pool/hottub however many of the conference attendees did and enjoyed the same.

This is a great venue and comparable to the other Fairmont hotels I have stayed in and I would stay here again. The old architecture and charm makes it worth taking the time to wander around and enjoy the ambience and character this hotel has to offer in the center of the city.

This was the second of our Canadian holiday hotels and although we only stayed one night it was excellent. The decor of the hotel is impressive and the rooms bright and clean. Service was generally excellent with the slight exception of breakfast waitress but I may be marking her down purely because the rest were so good. Breakfast buffet was not as good as the Hotel Vancouver but I don't think anyone can match that. It was however very acceptable.
Overall another very good experience and Fairmont hotels are rapidly becoming my favourite chain.

Great downtown location on 9th Ave. An immaculate older hotel with expansive open common areas and halls. Room was spacious too - high ceilings and lots of space, and very well appointed. But bathroom was tiny. Great service by all staff I encountered. Food and service was excellent in Rimrock restaurant.

Room Tip: Rooms along back hall of hotel are adjacent to train tracks. Immediately adjacent. Ask for a room...

This hotel is big and luxurious. Staff are all friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel is ideally placed for the city. Room was enormous housing two double beds - the firsdt time all trip that I slept by myself - and what a comfortable sleep. Wifi is available at a cost of just under $14 but if you are staying on gold standard terms then you can easily join the Presidents club and get this complimentary.

Room Tip: If you want free wifi then look into how join the Presidents club to get it complimentary. Also if y...
