“Hotel Service and Room ruined an otherwise special occasion.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2011

We live in Calgary and had never stayed at a hotel in town but with my mother promising to look after the 10 month old we decided to make the most of it. My husband booked a bed and breakfast package which came with wine and strawberries.

The room itself was unexciting. Bathroom was particularly dull. We have a nicer tub/shower at home. We we got to the room there was no wine and no strawberries. This is even with my husband had calling before arrival to confirm the time and to get a bouquet of flowers in the room. He went down to the front desk and was told there was a mix up on the time. So we went to dinner. We came back to wine and strawberries but still no flowers. He went down again to speak to the front desk and they said they would give us free breakfast. Umm......breakfast came with the package. At this point he didn't want to spend time arguing with the hotel but speaking with the hotel at check-out in the morning they said they could do nothing as everything was prepaid. Wouldn't do anything. At least they didn't charge for the flowers.

Would never stay there again

Dear tinybutterfly,

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback about your stay with us. I was very disappointed to hear about the challenges you encountered with the quality of the room and not receiving the additional amenities that were included with your room package. I have shared your comments with our management team and we will address the breakdown in our service delivery. Please accept my sincerest apologies for not giving you the special occasion weekend you were hoping for.

This kind of experience is certainly not indicative of the service that Hyatt is known for, and I hope this experience doesn’t deter you from joining us again. We would welcome the opportunity to exceed your expectations. Please contact me directly if I can be of any assistance in arranging a future stay with us.

Best regards,
Herb Rackliff

A very clean and tidy hotel and rooms except for the outside windows. They were dirty and hard to see out especially when the sun came around. It was a a great view of the the downtown buildings etc. A perfect spot if you want to enjoy the downtown area.
The parking is $25.00 per day under the hotel but you could park across the street for less. It might be worth checking out if you want to save a few bucks. The swimming pool was nice and there was a good view from it. We found not alot of people were using it.
All and all a decent clean place. Remember you pay extra for most things like a fridge in your room.

Room Tip: Get a room with a good view.

We stayed in here a few times for business, personal, and family trips for the past two years. We have been consistently treated very well by its staff, starting from the bell boy, front desk, concierge, lounge staff, as well as the Thomson Restaurant staff. A couple people we want to give extra thumbs up to: Ketut Soma and Diana Zhang.

Even with the lack of recent Gold Passport promotion, we still choose to stay at this hotel due to the excellent hotel quality and services.

One thing we want to note is the hotel club lounge has an honor bar policy for which allow guests to writes down the number of drinks consumed. Unfortunately we have consistently witnessed how some guest abused the system, including taking a whole bottle of liquor to their rooms and not declaring any on the voucher. Our concern is over time this abused is becoming more widespread and cause the rest to pay for their behavior.

Room Tip: Get room with club lounge access

We held our Annual Conference this year at the Hyatt in Calgary. The check in and check out was fast, we got the room that we booked and the client service was really good. Our rooms were clean and spacious. The location of the hotel is great, it is near the shopping centre and many restaurants. All in all it was a great experience.

Stayed here after late evening flight with family. Very comfortable rooms. Upgraded to Regency Club and enjoyed a delicious breakfast including french toast, salmon, free-range eggs. Parking is an extra $25/night. Nice pool and workout facility.

Trip was for business, so not our choice. No phone book in the room, so not only were you charged for local phone calls, you had to pay for information calls! Complimentary coffee machine didn't work. Restaurants in this hotel were far too expensive! Cold time of year to visit, but we couldn't get the room warm enough.

The staff at the Hyatt Calgary are like family. They envited us in as one of their own, we have never been treated with so much kindness and genuine respect... Not the typical brown nosing that you get in other hotels.. This was real and forced you to start each day with a smile. the rooms were fantastic and the food was excelent we stayed for 3 nights and will be back for sure! i will rave about the Hyatt and wont stay anywere else no mater where i travel.

Thank you again.
David.
