“Nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

To stop overnight in Calgary, chose this hotel as it is close to the airport. The room is big, clean and the bed is comfortable, the check-in and check-out were pretty fast and efficient. No complaints about this hotel at all and will certainly go back.

Room Tip: The hotel offers free shuttle to pick up from the airport, phone them once you get your luggage, no...

We stayed here after doing some research online for a good deal. Since I knew Calgary pretty well, I chose this hotel partly for the location. It was relatively close to shopping centers by car.

Pros:

-Nice large room, comfy beds, desk, sofa, flatscreen TV
-Clean
-Clean hallways, common areas
-Friendly service staff

Cons:

-Our room faced the back and out there seemed to be a garbage dumpster that people took to each night (we stayed a few nights), as well as a large parking lot of a wholesale grocery store
-The grounds crew or something like that made a habit of starting up their business early in the morning. Not impressed with that.
-Parking seemed to be limited
-Police sirens seemed to go off at night a lot (we stayed over a weekend)

Now I understood going into this that the NE of Calgary is not so nice in comparison to the other areas, but for the value of the hotel on the inside, we overlooked the value (or lack thereof) of the hotel on the outside.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that faces the front.

We stayed in this hotel couple of weeks ago. For those who are traveling by car I strongly do not recommend it. The parking situation is very poorly organized. Our decision to book this hotel was based op many factors, upon them available parking, since we were on the road trip. We didn't even mind paying for it, we just wanted to know it was available. While booking it on the phone we were assured and reassured by the agent (who by the way didn't know what CAA/AAA was, even though their site is offering CAA/AAA discount) that there are plenty of parking space available. Oh boy, were we there for a surprise!
Some of the lots were closed due to roof construction/maintenance. Even though I don't think Labour Day long week end is the time to do that, I can at least understand it. After checking in and refreshing we went out for supper, when we got back couple of hours later there were no spaces available. At all! We were cruising around the lot for about 15-20 minutes waiting for someone to leave before we got one.
Next morning when we were checking out we addressed the problem to the young woman at the desk. How ever, young man didn't even let her say a word. He start telling us about how busy they are with 2 wedding receptions, when we mentioned that we don't really care about that, but if there were no parking available we would have loved to hear about it during booking so we could have made other arrangements, he said that we could have parked on some other parking lot somewhere, like some of the other guest did. Also, he said something like, even when they are not fully booked, they reserve parking for the wedding reception guests. (...???) When we said that we will never stay there again and WILL NOT RECOMMEND this hotel to anybody, he said "That's fine" and walked away. That was so rude! He also didn't offer us an apology. No even once. Lesson learned: THIS HOTEL IS NOT OFFERING PARKING TO THE PAID CUSTOMERS, BUT TO THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY LIVES IN CALGARY AND ARE THERE FOR THE PARTY.

Stayed for 1 night, August 29-30. Reserved one room with Priceline at the nightly rate of $83 USD. We only needed to overnight in Calgary as we had a late-arriving flight, so we were glad to book an airport hotel.

Upon landing, we tried to contact the hotel shuttle using the airport's reservation line. However, three of the phones did not connect and the fourth one did not allow us to speak to the operator. YYC needs to fix this... Fortunately, we found a direct line and called the hotel to arrange pickup.

The shuttle service is good (and free), and the driver was very friendly. I was a little disturbed about the long route that was being taken to the hotel but later found out that construction at the airport has eliminated all direct roads to the airport. Upon arrival, we rushed to the front desk to check-in and grabbed a free green apple at the counter as well.

There is a single elevator for six floors, but we never had any issues waiting for one. The first thing I noticed upon entering our hotel room (512) was a heavy scent of cologne. We opened the windows to try our best to eliminate the smell. The room overlooked the Wholesale Club parking lot, rental cars and some signage that had been taken down. Across the street from the hotel are some car dealerships, an auto parts store and a Hooters restaurant.

Our room had a queen bed and a pull-out sofabed. The room also had a desk, sofa chair, flat screen TV, mini fridge and coffee maker. Everything appeared nice, but the bed was worn in the middle so that it was impossible not to roll towards the middle of the mattress.

The bathroom had interesting lighting that turned on dim at first and gradually switched to full power. My fiancée also appreciated the toiletries from Bath & Body Works. The shower worked well, but the knob to turn on the shower head fell off and needed to be screwed back on.

There is free Internet access in the hotel and a small business centre with one terminal in the lobby. Across for the business centre is an Avis rental car desk, which was handy as we rented a car for our stay there and avoided paying airport fees.

On my next trip to Calgary, I would consider staying again at the Executive Royal Inn if I could find it at the same rate. However, I would hope to have a better in-room experience that would not distract from the other good hotel amenities.

My dad and I stayed here for three nights while visiting Calgary. We rented a car, so it was very easy to get to and from the airport, and into the city centre. It was very close to the Sunridge Shopping Centre (walking distance) Similarly walking distance to various restaurants.
Breakfast was not included, and was a lot extra so we went to Phil's Diner instead, although their brunch did look good so it would have been nice to try.

The rooms were nice, beautiful huge flat screen televisions, extremely comfortable beds, and luckily there was a fitness centre as well which had an elliptical machine, some weight machines and a treadmill. They also had really good free wifi. I would definitely stay here again.

We spent the weekend with our family and our dog - yes your dog is welcome at this hotel! Not only is your dog welcome but upon check in your pet receives a welcome treat bag and toy - nice touch! We ate breakfast only in the hotel and they only offer a breakfast buffet which was average priced - not enough staff though. The rooms were clean and we felt a good value for your money. Will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: There is no pool only a weight room, sauna and two hot tubs.

Dear Rob B,

Thank you for choosing our hotel to be your hub during your weekend in Calgary. I am happy to hear that everyone enjoyed their stay, including those of the four legged variety. I am familiar with the weekend that you stayed and can confirm that we had some last minute staffing issues that we were not able to cover in a timely enough manner. I do apologize and am confident that on any return trips your breakfast experience will be far smoother.

Thank you once again for taking the time to write a review on our hotel. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Yours in hospitality,

Danny Marshall
