“Little Outdated Rooms, Free Breakfast A Plus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2014 via mobile

Stayed here on the beginning of our Rocky Mountaineer train experience, I was very impressed with how spacious the rooms were, a lot bigger then I had expected. I was disappointed with how outdated the rooms were though, it felt a little bland and could definitely use a makeover. The beds I found to be comfortable, although the pillows I had were a little too soft for sleeping on. The rooms were spacious but the bathroom sure wasn't, it was quite small and the shower sort of reminded of something my grandparents use to have with the small shower handle that you could hold in your hand. The pool and fitness facilities weren't open yet as they were still being worked on being repaired after the floods. The breakfast buffet in the morning was very nice though, quite a few options and lots of friendly staff there to greet you. Free breakfast at a Calgary downtown hotel is rarely found. The location is good too, only blocks away from the CTrain and several attractions. Overall good downtown hotel to stay at, can be pricey at times though. Book early if you are coming for Stampede or another major event as this hotel does fill up quickly during those times.

We recently spent 5 nights at The International. Location was good, liked the large rooms and it was clean however .....
We asked for a quiet room but were kept awake by elevator noise on our first night so asked to be moved the next day. The young lady who organised this for us was excellent and had our bags moved while we went out for the day. Only complaint about our new room was it was far too hot and we could not find a way to switch it off thankfully we managed to get the air conditioning working. The bathrooms seemed very small and we only ate breakfast twice during our stay which was pleasant enough but hot food was not that hot. Staff we encountered were all very friendly and hotel is great value for the money.

Room Tip: Request a quiet room away from the elevators

We only stayed for one night in May 2014 at end of our Rocky Mountain tour And were given a suite on high floor as requested but unfortunately next to lifts!
It should be every hotel managers job training along with receptionists in hotels to sleep in various rooms then they would understand what quiet men's !!
Generally staff and management Very friendly and helpful with later check out due to leaving in evening .
Breakfast was disgusting though as we arrived with Hal hour to closing but still should have freshened up everything instead of just letting bread /hot plates etc run down so little left in trays no new bread cut or topped up at all!
Would not stay here by choice again I am afraid .........

Room Tip: Get high floor suite away from lifts !

Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. We are very happy you enjoyed our friendly staff and our ability to provide you a late day check out for your evening overseas flight. We are sensitive to our guests overnight comfort and recently introduced reduced overnight elevator activity. Our complimentary breakfast weekdays is served from 630 - 10:00 and 7 -11 on weekends and our restaurant staff are available at any time to respond to any special requests during breakfast service from our dining guests. Thank you again for your feedback.

The suite was so luxurious it was a great pity I was only there for one night. I will use this hotel again but stay for an extended time. Staff all very helpful and courteous. There wasn't time to check out all the facilities but from what I saw I'm sure I wouldn't be disappointed.

The room suites in this hotel are outstanding. Massive with a separate meeting/dinning area, business workstation, sitting room area and bedroom. The decor is maybe a wee bit tired. The bathroom has a small bath/ shower arrangement fine but the shower is a bit low if you are six foot or over. Cleanliness first class. The buffet breakfast is excellent, normal healthy fruit and yoghurt, waffles eats, scrambled eggs crispy bacon, sausages as well as cereal. Service was excellent all you to do is ask for fried eggs and straight away they are of to serve. We ate in both the restaurant and the 4th avenue bar. I preferred the bar as it was a bit more informal and the bar staff were really chatty and attentive. The drink prices were very reasonable as was the food with a great choice with a bot of an orient slant. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. First class customer service. Will use this hotel again.

Room Tip: The views up 4th ave from 34th floor are amazing. If you are not scared of heights go for a high fl...

Stayed here for a few nights on the weekend and found the price to be quite reasonable for the huge room size. I liked having an actual dining area and living room, instead of the typical hotels that will have just a desk and one chair. It's only a few blocks from Stephen Ave, so there's lots of options for eating out nearby. The free wireless internet was very fast, which is important to me.
I found that the overall experience was good, but just little things bugged me. For example, the breakfast was the same exact items everyday and staff is a little lazy about refilling items. The bathroom is tiny, you can't even open the door all the way because it hits the shower bar. Cleaning staff is slow, I was out from 9 am until 5 pm and my room was still not clean when I returned. The robes supplied in the room were a little ratty. There are not many channels for watching TV. Items in the room like the phone and alarm clock were pretty basic. The cord for the table lamp was literally hanging in the air because the distance to the plug was too far. The effect of all these little things made the hotel seem a little run-down; it has the potential to be a lot nicer. I still prefer it over other nearby hotels, simply due to overall value for your money.

Room Tip: Higher floors are better for avoiding street noise.

Stayed one night in a two bedroom/one bathroom suite. Hotel check-in staff were lovely, very helpful and friendly. Our room was right next to the elevator which made it quite noisy but not enough that you couldn't fall asleep. Bathroom was tiny but functional. Room comes with sink, microwave, small fridge, coffee maker and kettle. Table and chairs for six, sofas and easy chair. Flat screen tv with plenty of channels in living room and king bedroom. Bedding was 1 king bed and two single beds. Not enough lighting in main bedroom - just two lights over the bed. Heating was on and it was hot in there (in the southern hemisphere we don't have the same level of central heating as northern hemisphere homes) and air-con unit in living room. There is a +15 which connects the hotel to buildings next door and across the road and there are options for eating cheaply there. For those that don't know Calgary +15's sit at around 1st floor level and are used as a way to get between buildings during winter. They know have public areas with fast food restaurants and cafes and even some shops so you won't see much of those at street level. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant which was nice enough - wouldn't rave about it and service was average. Breakfast the next morning was fairly standard - bacon, sausage, and ham plus scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, cereal options, fruit and danishes, plenty of selection and it was kept topped up with fresh food.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the lift and switch the heating off if you find it too warm as you cannot t...
