“Not good value for $”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2004

This hotel seems to be charging premium prices for low-budget rooms. The two of us, who are fairly slim, could barely pass each other in the room, and it was a bit of a struggle to get into the bathroom and close the door without standing on the toilet. The place is typically full of conferencees. This means it's pretty busy in the hotel, and the noise travels through the floors and walls. Radisson advertises that a multi-million dollar upgrade was done when Radisson purchased this hotel, but it seems all that money went into their conference centre and not into the accommodation. We won't be back!

I was quite surprised to find this hotel in the Radisson family. It was the worst name-brand chain hotel I have ever stayed in. To make a long story long, we were first given a standard room on the second floor. We figured that, being a Radisson, even a standard room would be fine.
What a disappointment. The hallway had laundry carts and clear bags of guest trash on the floors, giving it a very dirty look. The room was appointed poorly -- a deep army green and cheap looking light pine furniture -- a drab decorating scheme more fitting a 1 or 2 star hotel.
When we opened the curtains, we found that our view was of the top of a one-story annex and, about 10 feet from the window, a brick wall that extended above the window height; thus, we really had no view. This made the room even darker and more claustrophobic feeling. To complete the scene, there was a dirty, wet bathing suit lying on top of the roof. The room was so depressing that we decided to spend the evening out. Since the room was warm, we turned the thermostat lower, and left for several hours. When we returned, the room was unbearably hot. To the hotel's credit, they did send a repairman immediately; however, he told us we just didn't have the thermostat low enough (it was at 16 degrees C). He turned it down; but, 15 minutes later, there was no cool air coming out, so we requested another room. The desk clerk admitted that the cooling system was old, and apologized. She said they had only one room left -- A Business Class smoking room. Well, we felt stuck, since it was 9 pm, so we accepted that room. Unfortunately, it smelled so terrible we wouldn't even take our luggage in. We asked the hotel to find us a room at another hotel. They called us back and said there were no rooms available, then admitted they had only tried one other hotel. The clerk then told us she had learned there was actually another room available at this hotel. That room, which we did end up staying in overnight, was tolerable -- that is, it didn't smell; it was cooler; and there was no dirty bathing suit. However, the sheets had wear-holes in them, and the bed was short-blanketed. All in all, it was a terrible experience. Luckily, the next day, we found a room at a lovely, nearby Residence Inn.

Sorry, Radisson, but you should be embarrassed about putting your name on this one.
