“Great atmosphere!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

I loved this hostel so much for the friendliness of the staff and the common room that felt very homely. It made it one of the best hostels Ive ever been in to make new friends. I wish I had longer than 3 nights here.
The only problem is that my room was the tiniest dorm I have ever stayed in. They really shouldnt put 4 beds in such a tiny room. Perhaps though it was only my room that was so small. However I didnt care that much because of the awesome time I had here. Il definately go again!

Room Tip: ask for a room away from the common area or you may have a sleepless night.

Hey mate,

Thanks for the review, glad you had a great time here. Yeah, our 4-bed dorms are small but I figure they are just a place to put your bags and sleep at night - the rest of the time you can spend exploring Calgary and partying with us on the town at night. Loved having you with us!!

Cheers,

Jeff

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

Pre-booked a private room for 3 nights at the start of a holiday.

The communal areas felt a bit cluttered and, as a number of guests seem to have been there for a while, they were a bit imposing to be around. Me and the girlfriend retired to our (very small) private room more often than hanging out in the lounge.

The hostel is however located right next to the train (Chinook Mall/City Centre), Stampede Grounds and the red mile of 17th Avenue that has some great bars/restaurants on it. The place is also relatively cheap and provides free (simple) breakfast.

Good for a couple of nights, but upon returning to Calgary the night before our flight we spent a long while looking for somewhere that wasn't the wicked hostel - that say's it all. Probably ideal for backpacking, not great for a holiday.

Stayed September 2012, Travelled as a Couple.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs are a must if you don't want to be disturbed by the loud common room.

Thanks for taking the time to review,

I think you are very right when you say not great place for a holiday bit good for backpacking. We are not a hotel, we are a backpacker hostel so I suspect your expectations would have been alot different from what we actually are. If you had let us know, we could have found you a hotel more to what you were looking for.

Cheers,

Jeff

I needed a place to Stay on a tight budget while in Calgary. This hostel checked all the boxes. Good value, close to public transport, close to the city, helpful and friendly staff as well as a great atmosphere. The free breakfast was also a bonus.

The private room that I was in was clean, of a decent size but was a bit on the noisy side. It was near the common/tv/kitchen area and had an exit door that people went out of very regularly. This is only nitpicking because overall the place was great!

Stayed there last week for the Stampede, had only been able to book two nights as we booked our holiday really late, and when Jeff found out that we didn't have anywhere to stay the Friday and Saturday night he did his best to accommodate us and managed to squeeze us in. Going over as a couple on our own, who you meet really can make or break a holiday and the people working here and the people we met definitely made ours! :) Great hostel, great people, great fun.. would definitely recommend it!

When I checked into the hostel, I was surprised at how friendly everyone was. Jeff and Lennart were great guys and fun to hang out with... Very helpful and knew the area really well. I stayed for three nights and made some really great friends in that short period. I definitely would recommend staying at this hostel!

is well located, train station and Parking. rooms are small I had 1 for 4 people but it fit 3 ppl with bags whit lot of luck, if is more than 3 people seriously you guys has to leave the bags in hallway, beds are ok. book for 4 nights but leave before my check out date. is impossible to sleep the rooms are next to the common areas, I went for 3 nights and every night people talking or drinking not going so far the last night I sleep there were people making noise until 4 am and the night before a discussion was quite high almost ended in a fight, the hostel has mostly long terms people so every one know each other it does not look like a real backpacker

I only stayed at the Wicked hostel for one night before we caught a flight out to Vegas the next day,

was suprised at how quiet the place was, had a bunk room with at least 10 beds all to ourselves, but it was nice and I would stay again.

friendly staff too :D
