Pre-booked a private room for 3 nights at the start of a holiday.
The communal areas felt a bit cluttered and, as a number of guests seem to have been there for a while, they were a bit imposing to be around. Me and the girlfriend retired to our (very small) private room more often than hanging out in the lounge.
The hostel is however located right next to the train (Chinook Mall/City Centre), Stampede Grounds and the red mile of 17th Avenue that has some great bars/restaurants on it. The place is also relatively cheap and provides free (simple) breakfast.
Good for a couple of nights, but upon returning to Calgary the night before our flight we spent a long while looking for somewhere that wasn't the wicked hostel - that say's it all. Probably ideal for backpacking, not great for a holiday.
Stayed September 2012, Travelled as a Couple.
