This is a "won't be back" review. This restaurant was once apparently charming and people loved the atmosphere. It is now much larger and has been decorated in a style along the lines of Cactus Club or Milestones.
We were seated promptly and the server, who appeared after about ten minutes and explained that a number of the items on the menu were not available. These were items that we had already decided to order. It would have been good to be told when given the menu. In fairness, I should say that it was the Monday of a holiday weekend, so even though the restaurant was only about one quarter full, it was possible that they were short staffed.
I ordered the wine for the three of us, so was surprised when it was presented to my daughter for tasting. I would have thought nothing of it, had the rest of the service had been passable.
I asked about the pine nuts in the salad, as I have a bad reaction (and not an uncommon one) to Chinese pine nuts but am fine with European. After a slight eye roll the waiter disappeared to the kitchen, and came back 30 seconds later saying they were rushed off its feet and he couldn't answer. I ordered the feta salad without the pinenuts and my daughter and her partner ordered the charcuterie plate. When the salad came the feta was goat cheese (not mentioned as such on the menu), which I loathe. I put the uneaten salad to one side and the server took it away. He came back a few minutes later and asked if he could remove the charcuterie and put what was remaining on a smaller plate. Most unusual, but he said it was to clear space for the rest of the dinner. Twenty minutes later we were still waiting for the dinner.
The dinners were unremarkable, particularly for the price. The server disappeared for the rest of the meal and I finished the serving of the wine to the table myself. After finishing the meal, we finally had to ask someone passing for the plates to be removed. The sever then appeared briefly, put down dessert menus without a word and left. Ten minutes later, I asked someone else who was passing for the bill, as we no longer had time to order dessert. The bill was brought to us by our original server, with my uneaten salad still charged.
This is is an upscale restaurant, and not inexpensive. This is the 1st time I have ever not left a tip. I doubt this was a surprise to the server who must have been aware of his poor service and the degree to which his manners were wanting.
