I had booked a 5 night stay at the end of August but bailed after 2 nights. Although the room was clean, but small, the problems began after coming back from a night out for dinner. Walking upstairs to discover our room door ajar. I looked inside and although nothing was missing, it still freaked the heck out of my daughter, who did not want to stay the night. We got the manager up and he checked the door (no sign of forced entry). He checked our key (this room was the only one in the motel using an actual key, the other rooms were card operated) and made sure the staff key was in place in their lockbox. Nothing more could be done, so he left.
After calming my daughter down and wedging a chair against the door, we finally went to sleep. That was short-lived because the portable room air conditioner started making wierd noise, forcing us to shut it off and try and go back to sleep in the sauna-like room.
We had a very busy day planned the next day, so we did not have time to look for another place, a decision we regretted at about 11pm the next night.
While watching tv, a strange high-pitched screeching noise started happening. It would start, then stop. At first we thought it was the tv, then the air conditioner and after we shut everything down, it was found to be coming from the bathroom vent. It went on for another hour or so as I tried to remove the vent cover and figure out how to silence it. A call to the front desk told us that there was no staff on until the next morning so we would have to wait until then for maintenance to check it out. Their advice, turn off the bathroom fan. The problem with that was there was no actual fan, it was just a vent. I did manage to remove the cover and stuff a towel into the hole, but this did not stop the noise. Finally, at about 2:30 am, I went outside to see if there was a problem on the roof. The wind was really blowing as I stepped outside (there was no wind the night before). I looked at the roof area approximately where our room was and sure enough, a vent turbine unit (the kind that looks like a fully popped jiffy-popcorn thing) was spinning above our bathroom, but it was creaking very loudly (imagine metal grinding on metal, quickly, then slowly...)and there was no way I could control it.
We checked out the next morning, went a block down to the Days Inn and spent about $4 a night more, but it was like moving into a 5 star hotel.

Thank you for your review. We would like to take this opportunity to address your comments and concerns.
As with any door lock, it is good practice to check the door before leaving to ensure it is secure. We have reviewed the surveillance tapes and can assure you that no one accessed your unit over the time period in question. Such checks are part of our ongoing monitoring plan which is in place to provide the excellent level of customer service that we are well known for. The safety and well-being of our guests, along with our staff and service providers, is of the utmost importance to us.
Concerning the fan noise, it is not possible to access the roof in the darkness of the night. Hoever, since our property practices a continual maintenance program, as soon an issue like this is brought to our attention, it is dealt with immediately. Calgary has had a season of extreme weather conditions that has affected both residential and commercial properties alike.
We understood that the length of your stay was being reduced due to a change in plans. Our check-out agent had asked you the reason in order to see if there was anything she could do to assist you. From your review, it appears that we were unable to meet your personal accommodation needs, however, we are pleased to know that you were able to find a property that was more suited to your needs for the remainder of your stay.
