“A taste of Paris in the foothills!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2010

The new Le Germain/Calgary gives huge weight to Calgary's claim to be Canada's 2nd English City, after Toronto. Superb staff and lots of them, intimate, luxurious, spacious rooms straight out of nouvel Paris design, loved the hot oatmeal in the breakfast buffet, fine attached restaurant, located in the heart of the city, as cool as it gets on the prairie.

We had a wonderful stay here. This new hotel is design eye-candy. The rooms are dark, cozy and spacious. The bed was pure fluffy, luxury. I did find the trendy ceiling bathtub water spout to be noisy though. Great valet parking service. Charming front desk staff. The hotel is conveniently located to the best of downtown Calgary. We didn't eat at the restaurant or have breakfast here. Lots of good nearby restaurants though - the concierge got us a last-minute dinner reservation for our anniversary. The meal was romantic and memorable. We had a great brunch at the top of the Calgary Tower which is literally across the street. A great boutique hotel experience.

Modern decor, ultra-comfortable amenities, spacious rooms, decent price, Le Germain is by far my favourite hotel in Calgary. Small things such as the espresso machine in the room, the large flat-screen TV with HD satellite channels, bathrobe, rain shower, down comforter, all contribute to make a stay at Le Germain a very relaxing and comfortable one.

I believe breakfast is included in the room rate and is just perfect to my taste. It is served as a buffet in a large room on the 2nd floor, and the helpful staff will get coffee (or anything, I'm sure) from the buffet for the guests.

Can't wait to go back. Too bad it's sold out next week.

The hotel was nice and new with a modern look to the rooms. Very comfortable with good service. It is centrally located at the corner of 9th and Centre, right across the Marriott that was going for twice the price and across from the Calgary tower.
The only complaint I have is that the halls and rooms were not very well lit, or the paint color was dark so the entire hotel seemed rather dimly lit. Other than that everything else was great. I especially liked the large bathroom with the rain shower shower head, very nice.

It's been a long time since we have stayed in such an elegant hotel and pampered by the staff. The hotel location downtown is great, superb facilities and rooms that are fantastic. We enjoyed the experience so much that we came back for a few more days before flying home. Truly a lovely experience.

I stayed two nights here while on business trip attending a conference in a nearby hotel. Le Germain is perfectly located for events around the conference center and its related hotels. I was probably booked into Le Germain because it has a reasonable government rate of CD$222/night including breakfast, and all taxes. The included breakfast was lucky because I would have felt pretty ripped off had I spent the CD$20 walk-in price for a minimal continental breakfast the equal of which I've enjoyed in many motels. And, in general, the service is a little lacking. With everything is reasonably efficient, there isn't a much of a warm welcoming atmosphere. The biggest plus is that the decor is very tasteful, and rooms are quite hi-tech with a walk-inn closet, mood lighting programs, huge TV's, and totally cool showers (no bath tub in my room though). The rooms have the European system of central light switching that doesn't work with the room key inserted. Being an energy researcher, I consider this a big plus, but it obviously wouldn't make everyone as happy as it did me. Overall, a swish place to stay in the heart of Calgary, especially if you can take advantage of the government rate, but don't expect to feel pampered.
