“Fabulous Staff Makes The Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2011

Myself and daughters stayed last fall (2010) for a "stayvacation" as we live in Calgary and we were going to attend the Titanic exhibit. I know the hotel is older but I love the Delta chain and we were so impressed with their staff. We stayed in a Signature Suite but the staff is truly amazing no matter what room you stay in. What we appreciate with a Signature Suite is unlimited access to the Signature Club for snacks and beverages and the evening appetizers were excellent as was the breakfast choices. Yes it is an older hotel but the staff make up for it in everyway!

Room Tip: Get Signature Club rooms. They include breakfast buffet and evening appetizers in the Signature Clu...

Greetings,

I understand that you stayed here last December and I am happy to see that you were able to share some of your experiences here on Trip Advisor.

Wonderful that you enjoyed the amenities and particularly the staff. All were so pleased to learn that they served you well on that occasion. I was also very pleased to learn that you enjoy Delta Hotels and Resorts and we look forward to welcoming you back, hopefully so you may enjoy another "staycation" right here in Calgary.

Hotel is in down-town but towards the edge. About a 10 minute walk to the pedestrianised streets and the main mall. Right beside Chinatown which is handy for lunch. Not the most attractive of buildings from the outside but better inside with a bar, restaurant and Starbucks in the lobby.

Room was okay, decent size and a good shower, but a slightly dated bathroom. WiFi in your room costs extra but is available for free in the lobby,

Staff are friendly and helpful. They were happy to store our luggage for us for a few hours after we checked out.

There is a bus stop directly across the street that the 300 limited stop bus to/from the airport stops at which is really handy, The $2.75 fare (to the airport, I think it costs $8 from) being more preferable to the $15 shuttle bus, especially considering the public bus is just as quick.

Greetings,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Overall we were pleased to learn that you enjoyed the services and amenities, particularly our friendly and helpful staff. The hotel was constructed in 1980 and while the exterior brick facades are of that era we have completely refurbished the inside, including guest rooms as recently as 2007. Delighted you were able to make use of Calgary Transit to get you to the airport for a reasonable fee.

Thank you again for taking the time to post and should your travels bring you back to Calgary, I hope that we will be able to extend our hospitality to you once again.

Sincerely,

James Tingley

I stayed here with my girlfriend for a getaway. The lobby and character/ambience of the hotel was superb. Love the fireplace. We forgot a corkscrew and the friendly efficient staff brought us a nice Delta Hotels corkscrew and an extra bathrobe within minutes of my asking. We enjoyed the hot tub and the view of the river valley from our room. I thought the location was great - within 1 block walking distance of the great restaurants in Chinatown.

Room Tip: We liked the view from the upper floors.

Nice hotel. Bed was very comfortable but the bathroom was dated. Not really 4 star in my mind but decent for the discount price.

I stayed at this Delta on business. My assistant booked it because it was less expensive than some of the other options. At first I was a little miffed because it was just a bit far to walk to my meetings downtown, but not quite far enough to justify a taxi.

The room was fine though and the Internet was free which I appreciated. I was booked into a room that gave me access to a lounge on the 24 th floor which ran a free cocktail hour in the evening and continental breakfast in the morning. That was a nice bonus.

Add to that a decent meal in the restaurant with a friendly waiter and all in all it was a nice stay.

Greetings,

Thank you for your comments and I was very pleased that, all in all, our hotel turned out to be a good choice for your trip to Calgary. Delighted you enjoyed our Signature Club Floor accommodation and lounge including our weekly Manager’s reception held each Wednesday evening. During the remainder of the week an honour system is in effect. I shall be certain to pass along your comments to the team, particularly those who served you in our Bistro restaurant. I hope that the next time you are in Calgary we can look forward to welcoming you back. .

Stayed at this hotel for two nights - the first impression of the lobby was very welcoming. It was busy, but we were still able to check in within a few minutes. The staff were friendly and helpful. We used the self-park option at the hotel in the underground car park beneath the hotel which was straightforward and resonably priced for a city hotel - around 17dollars per night. The parking was secure, with barriers to get in and out and a member of security in a booth at the exit.

The room was on a high floor and had a great view over the river. The room was light and spacious and was a good size with two queen sized beds and a desk in the window. The room was quiet.

The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants and attractions like the Calgary tower and the Glenbow Museum, so it was in a good location. We did not eat in the hotel but used the plentiful restaurants in the paved shopping district instead. There is going to be a Starbucks opening very soon within the hotel which would have been useful as it was difficult to find somewhere for coffee on the Sunday morning (they are just in the process of fitting out the Starbucks now).

We used the pool once - the pool is a reasonable size and temperature, but the changing facilities are tiny and could do with an update.

Overall - a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor - we were not troubled by traffic noise.

I was on a business trip in September and shocked at the hotel rates downtown. I chose the Delta Bow Valley balancing price and reviews.

It's an older property but the updates are nice. The rooms are comfortable. The restaurant dinner menu is "meh" but breakfast was good.

A few things to note: there seems to be a fire station right outside the hotel and the street traffic was noisy so ask for a room on the higher floor or away from the station. And, the hair dryers don't have quite enough oomph to get a full head of hair dry without a time commitment.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the fire station and higher up for a quiet night's sleep.
