“educational and interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

My daughter took me to this museum. We had a lovely afternoon. We saw "Transformations" and it was an amazing collection. Both Jackson and Dix tell a gripping story of the war years.
The short film on the history of Albertans who played a significant part in the growth of the
province was very educational. Then you can go through the exhibits and learn even more details of these individuals. How they each contributed to is very interesting. From the "wild west" to current day and everything in between they have made Alberta ( and Canada) what it is today
a great province and a great country

“This museum shines!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

We planned on spending just a couple of hours at the Glenbow Museum but found its exhibits so highly educational, well-conceived and well executed that we spent several hourd there broken up into teo bidits on the same day. Very suitable for families.
The exhibits on First Peoples is exceptional. As visitors to Calgary and Alberta, we appreciated the emphasis on local history. The exhibit on "Warriors" is NOT suitable for children. The exhibit of local artists from the 1980's was fun.

We kept our receipt so we could return the same day. What an under- rated gem!

“Wonderfully Diverse!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

The second floor is an art gallery. It has mainly Asian and Western Canadian art. Upon entry, the third floor has a wonderful short movie about the history of Alberta. At least one-fourth of the floor is an extensive exhibit of the Blackfoot Native people. There is also information of the on Aboriginal/Inuit art and culture. In addition, there is information about those that explored and assisted to grow the provence. The fourth floor has an African exhibit, a display of warrior equipment, and a VERY extensive mineral exhibit. There are minerals and natural stones from all over the world. I particularly liked the phosphorus exhibit. When you pressed the button, it turned off the lights and the colorful minerals glowed.

“Small but interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

Maybe I'm biased. I can only compare the Glenbow to the museums I've been to. Glenbow reminds me of a smaller version of the ROM in Toronto. It has 3 floors of exhibits. Mostly modern paintings done by Calgarians. As for artifacts they have some interesting ones from different native peoples' tribes as well as minerals & art of asia. The minerals & art of asia were my faves. Glenbow is housed in a more modern building than the ROM. But they really need to take care of their public areas better. On some floors the carpet outside the elevators is stained. Not a nice look. Makes it look a little shabby. But other than that, the museum itself is good & the gift shop has some interesting items. It's pricey but that's to be expected of a museum gift shop.

“Great Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

We found this an interesting Museum and learned a lot about Canadian History from all perspectives. The exhibits in this area were superb and there were plenty of places for sitting down and enjoying a rest. The staff were extremely helpful and all collections we found interesting especially the large collection of minerals/stones on the top floor. I would recommend this Museum to any visitor to Calgary
