“Come hell or high water!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

This is the slogan adopted by the folks of Calgary regarding whether the Stampede would go ahead this year. It sure did. Awesome experience. The parade was great, the Rodeo fantastic. The chuck waggon races went ahead despite torrential rain. Participants and audience thoroughly soaked was brilliant never the less!

“Thank you Calgary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

One of the best trips we have had. Everything was so well organised, and SUCH helpfull and kind staff. How they have managed to put the stampead on just 2 wks after the terrible floods in nothing short of a miracle. The community spirit, and the hard work shines through, so thank you Calgary, and hope come Hell or High Water, the stampead will go on for many , many more years. We will be back for shore.

“terrific 3 days”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Just back from the opening 3 days of the Calgary Stampede. Still in awe that the committee and thousands of volunteers were able to clean up/rebuild etc after the terrifying flood which hit 2-3 weeks before opening day ! Attended the two hour parade - went to the Rodeo twice! - visited exhibits such as sheer shearing competition and bare back riding; wandered through the horse stalls/ ...walked the midway a lot - love the food the games and the incredible array of rides; attended the chuckwagon races - wow !! Danced in Nashville North. Attended some corporate events. Went to the TRANSALTA GRANDSTAND Show twice as so spectacular! Everyone in town dressed as cowgirls and cowboys !! And last but not least the western art show on the grounds of the Stampede was First Class ................ sorry had to leave !!

“Put the Stampede on your bucket list!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

This has been one of the best experience we have had on our travels. The stampede staff are friendly, helpful and polite. They have thought of everything. People welcoming you at the gate to assisting you I of on events at the Stampede. The Rodeo is fabulous! The evening Chuckwagon racing incredible and the evening Grandstand show unbelievable. So well done and professional. The talent from the ballet and opera company was amazing. There is so much to see for kids and the whole family.
Less than two weeks after the flooding the City of Calgary did a fabulous job of getting the city back to hosting guests.
This is a must event to attend in ones life.

“Stampede Caravan Pancake Breakfasts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Your Calgary Stampede experience is incomplete without attending one of these!
And they are FREE :)

If you have youngsters then definitely line up at the 'pony rides' first to avoid disappointment.

This may seem counter intuitive when line up for breakfast likely appears immense, however these breakfasts are so incredibly well organized with countless volunteers flipping pancakes, etc. that the food line moves remarkably fast. They will funnel you through a series of tents; first essentials of plates, cutlery & juice, second comes pancakes & sausage and finally butter & syrup to your hearts artery clogging content!

At the end of all of these lines (usually 4) you come out to a mobile stage complete with live entertainment, music bands, native hoop dancing, often a marching band shows up and always a few cow-girl princesses arrive to greet the guests & sign autographs for wee princesses in waiting. Find a seat somewhere close to this area to eat ~ dancing is strongly encouraged should you feel the urge & typically hard to resist.

Additionally for little people there is often a petting zoo set-up complete with wee goats, pigs, bunnies, etc. Sometimes you will be able to try your hand at mechanical calf roping which is good for a laugh.
Caravan breakfasts are typically hosted in a mall and you will often find the mall vendors participating in some fashion, by offering free coffee, product samples or other experience enhancing fun contribution.

To learn more about the history of this local tradition or find out where the closest one is to you on which day, check out the details of this local affair - www.caravan.stampedebreakfast.com.
PS - they are so organized the Caravan even shows up with a row of porta-potties to accommodate the needs of every guest :)

A definite 'must-do' to complete your Calgary Stampede experience by enjoying a good old dose of our Western hospitality!
