“Great airport hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2009

We stayed here for an overnight prior to an early morning flight. Breakfast started at 5 a.m. and was sufficient, we parked our car at the hotel for the week (extra days parking cost 8 dollars per day) and used the very friendly and efficient shuttle service. I would stay here again and have already recommended the Acclaim to my friends. This hotel has a real european flair to it...small rooms but efficient use of space. I appreciate the steps The Acclaim has undergone to be environmentally conscience.

This hotel is very new, and if you are sensitive to off gassing from carpets and upholstery then don't stay here for a while. The location is not close to anything but the airport. However it is really easy to get to if you are coming into Calgary from the North. The first time we stayed there, the registration computer system had crashed. We went out for supper, and when we checked everything was working correctly. The hotel and rooms have more style and nice touches than more hotel rooms in the other chains at this current price range. The shower is nice. There is a restaurant under construction, and that will improve the location, since you will be able to have supper with out leaving the area. The breakfast is OK if you like cold cereal, yogurt, and canned fruit. I can't say that I enjoyed any of the hot items I tried. The coffee is good, and the breakfast area is much nicer than most.

We stayed at the Acclaim on our last night before our flight back home. We chose it because of its proximity to the airport and the reviews on TripAdvisor.
Location wise, you can't get a nicer hotel closer to the airport. It was just a few minutes to drop off the rental car.
The downside is that the area around the airport and hotel are very drab and industrial. No issues of safety, but just very dour, and few other conveniences nearby.
The hotel itself is very similar to the new Hyatt Place format. It's very modern, with clean lines and the latest technology everywhere.
We had a double Queen room, because our single King was not available when we checked in at 1pm. The room was very well designed and apportioned. Soft linens, great bathrobes, comfortable beds, easy-to-access free wifi, flat screen TV, handy desk, etc. The bathroom was great ... TV, large tub, side jets for the shower, plenty of counter space.
We did have to unplug the clock/ipod dock because the light it emitted was too bright to sleep with.
It was easy to get downtown from the hotel, but if you want to experience any kind of nightlife or spirit of Calgary, you should choose something else.

Staff were helpful. No restaurant nearby but suggested place to eat at airport "Kelseys" Great steak. Breakfast was ok. Shuttle to airport reliable. Phone up from outside airport. Just gave $1 a bag for shuttle. Rooms modern. Has TV in Bathroom! Away from the city and can bypass Calgary to go to Banff.

Great hotel for business or families. Best shower facilities I have ever seen in each room. Lovely jacuzzi tubs on rooftop available for guests. Once they have their restaurant built this winter there would be no reason to go to any other Calgary airport hotel. Great staff and management!

My mom and I had a room with 2 queen beds. Beautifully decorated and supplied with gorgeous robes and an incredible bathroom complete with pulsing shower, tv and soaker tub!. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. We arrived during a cold snowy spell and it was lovely to walk into the lobby and see and feel the inviting fire. They had a couple of computers with printers in the lobby for the clients use so we were able to print out boarding passes from there. My daughter and friend were waiting in the lobby when we arrived and the fellow at the front desk had even given my daughter directions to get to the new mall from the hotel. We enjoyed their hot tubs on the roof at night; would be especially wonderful on a starry night but still awesome with the ice around and the hot tubs a lovely temperature! The breakfast in the morning was great; cereals, yoghurts, scrambled eggs, sausages, bagels - the only thing they didn't have when we were there which would have been nice was fresh fruit. But having said that, they did have a fruit salad available.
All in all a wonderful experience close to the airport. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.

LOCATION
This hotel is located north of the Airport off Barlow Trail on Freeport Drive. It is the furthest I've stayed outside of Calgary without actually leaving the Calgary City limits. It takes about 20-30 minutes to get downtown, depending on traffic and weather. The area is developing and is primarily commercial and light industrial. Not much in the area in terms of restaurants, bars, or attractions. I would only recommend staying here if you have a car or you want to stay near the airport. They do have a shuttle to and from the airport.

GENERAL
The hotel is very appealing inside and out, though the West end was under construction during my visit. All the furniture/decor is up to date and lots of wall art that look nice. The hotel lobby is very stylish with a very contemporary swirling flame fireplace, and screens in the lobby have Calgary Airport arrival and departure information listed.

The breakfast is basic but does the job, with eggs, cereals, small sausage cakes, waffles, fresh fruit, yogurts, and local and national papers. The sausages were little rubber pucks, avoid those things. Yuck.

The hotel's "cherry on top" is the two hot tubs on the roof with a great view of downtown through a torii.

PARKING
Free parking outside on mixed paved/gravel lot.

CLEANLINESS
The hotel was spotless, as were the rooms.

COMFORT
The bed was comfortable and the TVs worked well! I liked the bathroom with the deep tub and newer full body shower panel.

SERVICE
Check in and out were quick, everything worked well. The construction on-site didn't affect me at all. The staff was friendly.

OVERALL
If you enjoy staying in stylish hotels, you'll like this place. This location near the airport may be great for business or short-term travellers, but it is 20-30 minutes drive from downtown and most attractions. The location didn't bother me a bit, so I give it 4 out of 5! I enjoyed my stay and may stay again. I'd give 4.5 if I could because those hot tubs with the downtown view is a very nice touch.
