Kelly is personable and a good host. The house is lovely as was the room. The room still needs some finishing, however it does not distract from the stay. Kelly's breakfast were lovely. I nice amount and well thought out for versatility. Blanco however was even more personable than Kelly, Very friendly and very well behaved lovable host dog.
The room was nice. Personal preference would be to provide a curtain across the glass door to the toilet. We like more privacy for this that what is current.
We would go back.

Room tip: There are stairs to all rooms.

Kelly, the owner, is accomodating and pleasant in manner. This 1914 house with it's ongoing restoration is easy to find in the heart of Calgary. The rooms as one would expect in such an older, Victorian home are on the smaller side but spotlessly clean as are the bathrooms. The heart healthy breakfast Kelly served was gratefully received as the hand prepared fruit cocktail with every berry, mango piece, etc delicious and was a lovely presentation. The oatmeal prepared with coconut oil and garnished beautifully with fresh fruit was such a treat and nice change from the heavy, carbohydrate, fatty breakfasts one normally indulges in at a B & B.

We were coming back to Calgary for 10 days from Cuenca, Ecuador and made a decision to try a BB. Kelly made us feel right at home and our room was great, also Blanca his cute West Highland terrier made us not miss our dogs while we were away.
It is so well located with some of the finest dining just a short walk from his home.
If you are ever lucky enough to stay at Hughes House you will not be disappointed.

Room tip: All the rooms in the house are quiet.

Stayed at Hughes House while in Calgary on business. Easy to find and great location. Kelly was a superb host and I was able to meet some great people from many different parts of the world.
Bed was good and it was quiet for sleeping. Would not hesitate to stay again if I needed to.
Thanks Kathy from Drayton Valley

My husband and I needed a place to stay while our bedroom floor was being repaired. With only a few hours to make what was an immediate decision, we found Hughes' House. And a great find it was. Kelly is charming and welcoming. We had access to our own kitchen, so only ate breakfast twice during our week stay. The 2 that we did experience were excellent. Although there were a number of guests there during our stay, the atmosphere provided a quiet sleep. We would recommend Hughes' House and Kelly to those looking for a stay in a period house and with a friendly host.
