Description: Chef's Table is an award-winning, upscale 40-seat restaurant residing at Kensington Riverside Inn.Chef's Table, under the direction of the talented Chef de Cuisine Chris Barton, has garnered a loyal following, fantastic reviews and several awards, including the coveted Four-Diamond AAA rating, Best Hotel Dining by Where Magazine for 3 consecutive years including 2011, as well as a Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence. From warmth to wine, enjoy soul-repairing cuisine.Come join Chef de Cuisine Chris Barton and his talented team in their open-kitchen and get caught up in their excitement as they bring a modernist approach to classical French dishes, reworking them playfully while keeping their original integrity. Passion fruit replaces tomatoes in a twist on traditional prawn cocktail, while mulled wine is transformed into gel to accompany a game hen, and our crème brulee is deconstructed and artfully presented. A culinary experience to remember, Chef's Table's patrons can enjoy the five-course tasting menus or order à la carte. Wine selections specialize in smaller eclectic producers that pair up brilliantly with Chef selections, and service is unmatched.A sumptuous, warm décor—with dark brown Italian leather Poltrona Frau chairs, white Frette linen tablecloths, contemporary art and rich estate-grey walls trimmed with elegance—invites diners to relax and enjoy.Whether you're staying with us at the Inn, or simply dropping by, Chef's Table pursues perfection in food and service, considering all the details to provide the ultimate dining experience.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

HI:

Just when you think it can't get any better....they top that benchmark. Attended a wine (feature) dinner with a set menu and everything was amazing. Stunning Bordeaux and Sauternes with perfect food pairings. Attentive service in their usual fashion. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

“Excellent standard of cuisine, top quality dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

The entrance seems a little strange at first as it is part of the hotel but soon opens out into a large reception area featuring a nice welcoming open fire. There are comfortable sofas or small tables around the periphery where you can sit and enjoy an aperitif from the extensive cocktail selection or a good wine selection. The waiter was pleasant with a sense of humour and also knew the food and wines very well.

The restaurant seats about 30 people so make sure you book and allow time to take in the dining.

Executive Chef Chris Barton certainly takes a pride in his food, both the preparation and presentation. Quality ingredients make sure that this is truly a meal to savour and enjoy. The mixture of tastes wakens your palette and makes you thing "now why didn't I think of that" Pomegranate with scallops for example !

We had the scallop starter followed by Veal and Sweetbreads and a cheese platter to complete the meal.

There is also a 8 course Chefs selection paired with wines and next we go back that will be the choice.

“Conflicted on the experience....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

I stay at the Kensington Riverside Inn on a fairly regular basis and decided to try the Chef's Table. Their tasing menu looked interesting, but I wasn't that hungry and decided to order off of the menu. The food came at a good pace, and was creative and well done. Their wine list had some nice vintages if you know what to look for. I would rate it 4/5 for the food.

The problem was the service. The waiter was a pleasant enough young man, but asked way too many personal and intrusive questions. I like a little bit of chit-chat, but there are some things that are off limits. He wasn't offensive, just overlyfamiliar and presumptuous.

The food was good though, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place, so I may try it again.

Good afternoon Mr. Wayne,

I would like to thank you for your regular patronage of the Kensington Riverside Inn, and for your informative review of your recent dining experience at Chef's Table. I am so glad to hear you enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Without your honest feedback we would not be able to coach our staff to improve their service and in turn, your experience at Chef's Table. We take great pride in our reputation, and are lucky enough to have staff who are passionate and loyal, therefore, when an opportunity such as this arises, we welcome the challenge to correct it. I do hope we may host you again in the very near future!

This was the first time at the Chef's Table and what a surprise. The food was excellent and the service was top notch. I will return for sure. Some of the best food I have had in Calgary.

“A great experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for years. We finally decided on a boys night we would splurge for a good meal. This is a beautiful restaurant in a fantastic location. I counted maybe 12 tables, and when we arrived a large christmas party was going on in the lobby area. They had set up a large table. What a great idea for a party! The service is truly very good. Its non intrusive, prompt, and polite. The food takes time, but its a great place to spend an evening with good wine and good conversation! The waiter recommended some excellent dishes, and turned us away from ones he didnt recommend. That is true honest service. I had the Guinea fowl. delicious! Its an expensive fine dining restaurant, with no attitude. Its worth a visit!
