As this was my wife's birthday treat I decided to try the "fine" dining at this restaurant and was not disappointed. The price for 3 courses and a bottle of wine and 15% tip was £144. Which considering the room and the menu was very reasonable. The service was attentive, if a little over the top, but again in keeping with the room. They also offer a special deal of 3 courses off the menu for Can$69, which effectively means the starter or dessert is free, again an unexpected bonus in such a restaurant.
I had the main dish of canadian reared beef tenderloin which was outstanding ( one off the best cuts of meat I have ever had) and my wife had the canadian reared duck which she also said was perfectly cooked. We liked the idea that all the food on offer seemed to reflect in Canadian produce. The room was formal as was the service and although we had dressed up for the event, it seems that smart casual is the norm. It wasn't overbooked, I guess being a Sunday night, but the restaurant is not large so I could imagine in season reservations are a must. We also had a table for two by the window but being October the views across the Lake were not to be had, as it was pitch black outside ( why don't they try to light the lake up at night) but again in June/July this would be the ideal table to catch that setting sun over the mountains and lake.
All in all an excellent evening and one to remember from the food to the ambience of the room and indeed the value for money relatively speaking for such cooking and surroundings.
Did my wife enjoy her birthday meal. You betcha!!
