“Good, basic accommodation. Bit pricey.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

We do not often stay at hostels, but this is easily the best one we have stayed in. It is rather expensive for a basic, small bedroom, but all accommodation in Lake Louise is expensive. The room was clean and comfortable. There were abundant communal showers and toliets and they were well maintained and clean. Plenty of room to lounge about. The staff were enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. The hostel is a bit like a maze - negotiating the many corridors and different levels was a journey of discovery. Wi-Fi was a bit unreliable. We thought the cafe served good food at reasonable prices even if it did try to serve the strangest cappuccino we've ever seen!

We brought a baby here and had a great stay! Least expensive spot in Lake Louise but pricey for a hostel.

Beautiful kitchen and on the second floor of building four is a great play room for kids! Seek it out if you have children!

We stayed here mostly on the suggestion of a friend who loved the adjacent Bill Peyto's Cafe.

To be fair we had not stayed in hostel accommodations for several decades, and found the room a bit too basic for our tastes. However, it was clean and the shower and toilet outside the room were clean.

The competition nearby did not look great either. If you plan to stay in Lake Louise and have some budget flexibility, I would head for the Moraine Lake Lodge or the Chateau Lake Louise and splurge a bit.

Ok if basic fulfills your needs, however.

We were only there for the one night but don't have any complaints. We had a private room, shared bathroom, the room was nice enough and the bathrooms were clean and plentiful (toilet just outside, shared with one other room, showers and more toilets just down the hall). The kitchen was spacious and well equipped. The show stopper is the scenery and general ambience of the place - just beautiful. Sitting outside watching the squirrels run around, having a bonfire and a few (well more than a few but that was just me) drinks in the evening. I would return to this hostel if I had the chance - fond memories of a nice little place.

I stayed here for a week snowboarding on a trip between Alberta and BC, really lovely clean and modern interiors. The restaurant downstairs is great, tasty and affordable food (better option than at the grocery store as prices are high!). The location is beautiful, great hikes nearby and easy to get to the ski hill. It is quite quiet, there are no bars or places to go out drinking in Lake Louise but it's a nice peaceful break and place to get a good nights sleep. Be careful not to put your door key card in your pocket with money or your phone ( or take it to the sauna) as it loses it's magnetism and you have to go to reception. ( I did this and had to wait at reception for someone to come and save me in my towel oops). Nice kitchen, useful locker rooms and lovely lounge area. However, I didn't meet many young people and not much choice for evening activities, perfect for the skiing/snowboarding purist!

Spent two nights in the idyllically located hostel. The room was basic but perfectly acceptable. The freight train runs nearby but is not too disruptive. Plenty of car parking on-site and WIFI worked well (except during the area-wide blackout). There are plenty of options nearby for restaurants, snacks etc but the restaurant provides a superb selection of affordable, delicious food. Would highly recommend stopping by for breakfast, lunch or dinner even if you are not staying here! The hostel was convenient for a day trip to the Columbia Icefields and Skywalk. Also, there are great hikes nearby but it is worth finding out the conditions before setting off (eg. snow and ice covered trails).

We stayed in a private room and the bed was made but when we pulled back the sheets there were pubic hairs, food crumbs and what we thought were dead bugs all through the sheets. When we talked to the manager he was useless and didn't even applogized to us as he was tucking in his shirt. It was very frustrating all because you are a hostal doesn't mean cleanliness and customer service goes out the window. I will never stay there again and will be tell everyone I know to do the same.
