“... as in a fairytale .....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

The position of the Chateau in the natural area is absolutely unbelievable! As in a fairytale the Chateau is surrounded by a wonderful scenario! From the window in the room the magnificence of the nature can be seen! With a cup of brewed coffee prepared by oneself in the room life become exciting each moment! The staff is extremely courteous and efficient! We meet at the desk a girl named Angela! really truly outstanding her kindness! out of the ordinary!!! also the other workers are really impeccable! From Ashley in the Concierge to the Drivers of the shuttle bus to Lake Louise ski resort ! The days spent there are really to remember!

“Great Accomodations...but watch out for the food & drink!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

The overall hotel and room were kept in great shape. Thanks to a shortage of rooms we were upgraded to a junior suite and it was fantastic. Almost all of the rooms seemed to have nice views and modern furnishings though. Perhaps the strongest element of our stay was the staff-- from the bellman to the front desk. All were incredibly friendly and helpful.

There was really only two areas where things fell short-- the cost and quality of the food and drink. We happen to live in a city where we pride ourselves on having access to world-class food without the attachment of high cost. At this hotel, the cost of food and drink was exorbitant. $50 for a breakfast for two that consisted of waffles and a yogurt parfait. It didn't matter what you ordered for a meal-- it was woefully overpriced. One understands availability of a high-priced restaurant option in a resort hotel, but you couldn't even get a reasonably-priced croissant. On top of the pricing, the taste of the food was mediocre at best. We found by going into town and talking to the locals, we were able to find really good, simple food (including regional specialties) at reasonable prices in the town of Lake Louise.

There was only one other item to nitpick: pool access. It was a very long walk from our room, and to get to/from there, we had to walk through all of the main hallways (including the convention room areas), restaurants, and the front lobby, in a robe. (A changing room is available near the pool.) The temperature of the regular pool was also a little on the cool side, but not that bad.

Although the basics were well-covered (a comfortable place to sleep and great staff), we spent an amount near equal to our room on food & drink-- and were disappointed in what was served to us. Overall, I think we would recommend this place, but those who stay should definitely look elsewhere when it's time to eat and drink!

Room Tip: There is a newer side to the hotel...ask staff when booking

“Magical classy majestic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

One of those unique places in the whole world. Anybody who appreciates luxury and unique locations must visit and stay at the Chateau lake Louise at least once in their life. I cannot imagine a more romantic place.

Room Tip: Get a room with views of the lake, well worth it

“This is a must stay Hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

Built turn of the century. Located in one of the most beautiful places in the world, the Canadian Rockies. What more could you want? Oh and it's a Fairmont. Amazing. My room was a corner suite on one of the upper floors, facing the lake. It was in the old part of the building which I loved. For being an old room it was huge, with a giant picture window to enjoy the views. Super comfortable like all the Fairmont's I have stayed in. Service was great. Afternoon tea, the downstairs bar and the location. This is one of my favorite places in the world.

Room Tip: You have to get a lake view. Upper floor. Amazing

“Problem at checkout”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

I didn't want to leave.

Having stayed at most of the Fairmonts in Canada, I've come to expect high quality service, but also a little stuffiness. I've been a fan of the Banff Springs Hotel for years, but I think I now have a new favourite: the Chateau lake Louise.

I had a great room overlooking the lake and Victoria Glacier. $235 a night, prepaid, using an upgrade certificate.

I arrived early in the week and pretty much had the place to myself. When i skated in the evening out on the lake, I was the only person. I enjoyed sitting by the bonfire after my skates were off, admiring the stars and the mountains. It was busier on the weekend: loads of people having fun. Pickup hockey and British Bulldog seem popular and a way to meet new friends.

Downhill skiing at Lake Louise, I only shared a chair once on Thursday. On some trails, I never saw another skier. Friday was busier, Saturday was very busy. $87 lift ticket.

Hired a guide who gave me some pointers to improve my cross-country skiing, and he introduced me to the excellent track-set trails around the hotel. There's about 70km of trails. Once you know where they are, you can safely and easily head off on your own. He warned me to stay away from the avalanche areas which are surprisingly easy to access. The guides are very nice and not as busy as they want to be. You might be able to negotiate a good family rate.

Several of the more popular trails in the park are easily accessible during the winter, but you will need a car to get there. Rent one from the onsite Hertz dealer. Try Johnson Creek and Jpohnson Canyon, but get there early in the morning if you want the place to yourself. Light is best in the late afternoon. I encountered a herd of elk, and photographed some wolf tracks. watched some crazy people ice climbing. At least, I think they're crazy. They seemed to know what they were doing. Trails are serious wilderness trails, and you will need proper footwear. See if you can borrow ice cleats from the hotel; they were very useful.

There's sleigh rides and dog sledding available at the hotel.

Pool is a little small and busy in the late afternoon, but quiet most of the day. Great steam room after a long day outside. I was pretty sore each night, so glad of the hot tub and steam room.

Parking is $30 per day. Ski, boot, snowshoe and skate rentals are at the hotel, and reasonably priced. There's a deli in the hotel selling drinks and light snacks at reasonable prices all day. There's a sports pub that provides reasonably-priced meals. Then of course, there is the dining room for elegant and memorable dining. Enjoy a drink in the lobby bar for one of the most spectacular views in Canada.

The hotel is 4 km from the village of Lake Louise where you can stock up on reasonably priced wine, beer, and snack foods if you want. There is a small fridge in your hotel room; no mini-bar.

I can't stop thinking about the place. Just about perfect, and I usually hate winter.
