“Real Winter Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

When you get to the lodge, in winter, you smell wood smoke and imagine left over cake and hot tea.. coming from Deception Pass.. you deserve it. Pampering yourself here means being well feed at 8pm, in bed at 9 pm (10 if you are a party animal)' and out of bed at 7 am with the smell of fresh bread and coffee. Then, with a topo map ... you explore .. on your own, or teaming up with other guests. Skoki is a secret to pass on to friends only. No frivolities, real warm welcome, good books, excellent food, beds to wallow in, and conversations.. if you crave others things.. stay in Banff.

Room Tip: in lodge ask for the room with the ghost, or select a cabin

Skoki lodge is a great place.
If you are a hiker you will not find the hike in too difficult, especially considering you get a ride up to the end of the road. The views are outstanding on the way in (alpine lakes, glaciers).
The food and hospitality are amazing. Of course this comes with a price. The lodge is very expensive. But an excellent way to spend some time in the back country; especially if you are not a backpacker.
A great experience !

This is a once-in-the-life-time experience. Hard to get to, the hike will be strenuous but achievable. That makes the result so much better. The lodge is an oasis. The 3 cabins are far quieter than the lodge. The food is amazing. Fresh, tasty, satisfying. The hikes from the lodge are wonderful. Understated in terms of challenge, but very rewarding. We spent two nights. Do not go for less. We left a little tired but energized too, talking about returning with our kids.

Room Tip: Cabins ahed of lodge.

Skokie Lodge is a wonderful place. You can either hike in, or ride in by horseback. The hike in is a challenge.....2500 ft climb over Deception Pass then 1000 ft drop to the Lodge. We sent some of our items in by horse (Timberline Tours ) .....so we didn't have to carry it all on the way to Skokie. We took our own wines because we knew they would be our favorites....Skokie has wine but they are just OK. We carried out everything we took in but the liquor.....so pack light. It's a big climb out of Skokie with an extra 20 lbs on your back. Susan with Timberline worked with us on a price for the weight of what we wanted sent in by horse.....she's a special Lady with well cared for horses. The Lodge is quaint with squeaky floor boards in the small bedrooms upstairs....so bring ear plugs! The beds were comfy...I suggest the double bedroom. Bigger bed than the singles and nice cool breeze from the end window. The Cabins would be ideal for more privacy. The only downside is the Outhouses . There is hot water whenever you want it and the rooms have basins with a pitcher and towels etc.. The food is magnificent and plenty of it. I will return again to one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I have had the privilege of hiking into Skoki and staying at the lodge a dozen times over the last 20 years and it is always a wonderful experience. Katie and Leo are marvellous hosts who help you appreciate what a special place this is by telling you the history and the old stories about the lodge and how it came to be and how it is being preserved. The food is of course outstanding - buy Katie's cookbook to recreate it at home. The rooms and cabins are warm and cozy, good beds, soft duvets, and good bathroom facilities - as outhouses go!

Skoki is nice because of the effort to get there-- a scenic 3.5 hour hike into the backcountry with each next view better then the last---makes it selective to those who appreciate the effort. A really warm welcome by the Skoki staff highlighted by some of the best food one could expect (Katie is amazing, and I bought her cookbook she was so good!). There are not many options for lodges back country which is why I am guessing it is pricey for what I would otherwise consider a high-end AMC hut with only 24 people. $700 for one night for 3 of us in bunk room. All that said I would probably go back. Being off the grid from mobile phone coverage alone for me and two teenagers worth it :) great extra hikes to Merlin Lake and hike back a different route back out past Skoki lakes were wonderful!. interesting guests from around the world in a community style always make it engaging. all in all worth it

Room Tip: riverside cottage is supposed to be one of the best. the rooms in the lodge are nice lodge like bun...

Been planning this trip for a while. Worried about the hike in, carrying a backpack. Did I mention I am not a hiker? Rained all day on our hike in. Soaked when we got there but guess what-the whole experience was incredible. The scenery was jaw dropping, Skoki Lodge was amazing. OK, no flush toilets, no electricity, no running water but the ambiance made up for it.. The food was fabulous, rooms were very basic but functional and day hikes from the lodge made me appreciate this great country of ours. Beauty everywhere. Staff were great.

Room Tip: I think the cabins would have been a better place for me than the main lodge, as I am a very light s...
