“Trek Travel at Moraine Lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

The people and the views are what makes this lodge special. The staff is especially accommodating. Maybe the best service I have experienced recently. Views from everywhere are phenomenal. It gets quite crowded during the day, but mornings and evenings are special.

Our experience at MLL was a fantastic one. The staff, although seasonal, was as attentive and nice as anywhere I have experienced. Everyone from the front desk staff, to the room cleaners, to the restaurant staff were extremely nice, helpful, and enthusiastic about their jobs, we always felt welcomed wherever we went. The owner/manager obviously has a direct hand in the day-to-day operations as he was all over the property from what I could tell during our 4 night stay. The setting at MLL is too beautiful for words, you are nestled right up against the woods in one of the most picturesque and memorable places on the planet. It is well worth the money for one of the deluxe king cabins considering there is no parking fee ($35 a day at the Fairmont), breakfast is included, firewood/fire place cleaning is included, and unlimited canoeing is included as well (normally $45 an hour). Not sure of how great the regular rooms are, but the cabins are fabulous accommodations for two people. The lodge sits at the foot of the some of the most incredibly scenic hiking trails in the entire rockies, a great convenience for those that want to stretch their legs to see some scenery. During our 4 night stay we felt no need to leave the property other than for lunch, the cafe at the lodge got tiresome quickly, but breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious every time. Dinner had an especially nice selection of appetizers, wines, and entrees. The specials were delicious as well, we ended up eating at the Lodge restaurant every night, it was that good. The road leading to MLL is a solid 15-20 minute drive (if you go to the speed limit. I highly recommend that you do on this twisty mountain road, during our short stay we saw one memorial wreath on the side of the road) so keep that in mind if you plan to use MLL as a "base of operations" for a rockies sightseeing tour, you will have to add on 20 minutes to every drive/visit you take, and it isn't very convenient to "run back to the room" to grab something, but that is probably the case with every hotel/lodge in the rockies. There is no cell service at MLL, I considered that a plus during our stay, but if you venture just 5-10 minutes down the road you can pick up some cell service (cell service is full bars/full data in Lake Louise all the way down the road). Thank you MLL for an unforgettable experience, I am so glad I chose to stay here!

Room Tip: Get a king cabin, it is worth every penny. King cabins closest to the lake have the most visitors p...

My family of 5 stayed at Moraine Lake Lodge from June 30th to July 4th, 2012. Our experience at the lodge was fantastic and unforgettable. Moraine Lake is incredibly beautiful and picturesque. The staff and management were extremely friendly and attentive to our every need. The 3 course dinner on one night was outstanding and picnic lunch, packed in a nice takeaway basket, was full of wonderful food and a delight. The lodge itself is homey and friendly and the rooms very comfortable. I highly recommend Moraine Lake Lodge for anyone wanting to explore the Canadian Rockies.

We will never forget the breathtaking view of the lake and surrounding mountains from our room. We came for a relaxing break in the middle of a extensive and rather hectic tour of BC and we could not have chosen better. The location is spectacular, the staff are friendly and helpful and the room clean and comfortable. The little wood burner in our room was a real treat and being able to sit on our deck and take in the view each evening made our stay here very special.

My husband and I have been at Moraine Lake Lodge for the past 6 days and are sad that we must leave tomorrow. We have traveled extensively with our jobs and have become rather picky about the hotels in which we stay... but Lake Moraine Lodge has exceeded our expectations and was worth every penny. Here are some highlights:

1. The view is spectacular. Simply breathtaking.
2. Our king cabin is just as lovely as the photos suggest. The rooms are clean, well-kept, and the fireplaces are a great addition. In fact, we spent several days just hanging out in our room because we enjoyed it so much.
3. The restaurant is fantastic. Breakfasts were nicely done, with something for everyone (eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, pancakes, yogurt, cereal, pastries, toast/bagels, coffee, and juice). We also ate there 5 of the 6 nights we have been here and it was worth every penny. If you can, try some of their specials (elk, venison) as these were our favorite meals. However, we didn't have anything we didn't enjoy thoroughly. The food is excellent. During the day, you can get light sandwiches/soup from the cafe and bring it back to your room. We did this multiple times and i am going to miss the pepperoni calzones terribly!
4. Definitely join Kevin for one of the guided nature hikes. It might take a little longer to do the hike, but you will learn a ton about the environment (plants, trees, birds, and other animals too).
5. Go to one of the nature shows offered 3 nights a week. We went to a show on wolves on Wednesday night and found it to be very entertaining! Thanks Nadine!
6. The staff are great. As other reviews (especially those in the early season) suggest, some staff members may be less experienced than others, but EVERYONE went out of his/her way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Any request we had was addressed immediately.
7. The gift shop is lovely. We purchased a few shirts and sweatshirts (for ourselves and for family back home) and found the quality of the merchandise to be great.

The only complaint we had during our trip here was the weather. We definitely plan to return but will likely come back later in the season (July/August) which is supposed to be less rainy/cool. While there were many tourists stopping by the lodge during the day, we never found this to be annoying or inconvenient.

Note that we did go to the nearby Fairmont on Lake Louise for lunch just today and found it much MORE crowded and impersonal compared to Lake Moraine Lodge. Some of the staff there were even rude. So if you are looking for a wonderful place to stay in the Lake Moraine/Lake Louise area, don't waste any more time thinking about it. Go for Lake Moraine Lodge - it's amazing and we will definitely be back!

First I want to name a few important people. Thanks to Mike the GM of the lodge for understanding our needs and getting us a great cabin #16 was fantastic! Thanks to Rorry (spelling?) for his EXCELLENT customer service at ALL times! From the tour of the facilities, to the cork screw for the wine and champagne, the help with canoes, the advice on picnic baskets for trips and hikes, to getting us clean glasses for the wine, reservations at the hotle for dinner, etc.....Finally, thanks to Kevin ,the hiking guide, for a beautiful and informative hike! He REALLY knows his stuff! There were others (like many of the girls in the gift shop and deli) that were very nice and friendly that I'd like to thank but don't know their names.

We stayed in a Deluxe king Cabin #16. It was right off the lake and near the canoe rentals. The view was spectacular! We could sit for days next to the fire and watch the lake and mountains. The only downside (although not for us- we wanted the view) is that it is near the trail and is not "private" unless the shades are down. We waved to hikers as they went by. We just had to make sure we were dressed properly. The cabin was AWESOME! They cleaned the cabin promptly every day and even cleaned up the fireplace and got it ready for the next fire for you daily. Decor was just like the picture on line. We only had a problem one day with getting clean glasses, but it was quickly taken care of.

Breakfast in the lodge was free and got better later in the week. We stayed from Monday 6/18 until Friday 6/22. It started with cereal, pastries, bacon, sausage, fruit, etc. Later in the week they added delicious pancakes-both plain and ones with berries.

We ate Dinner one night and were slightly dissappointed in the menu selection. I had the steelhead trout and the wife had Salmon. Both were good but the sides were seriously lacking. Bread with the meal was delicious as well.

The hotel is about 12 km from Lake Louise. We hiked around both Lake Moraine and Lake Louise. I highly recommend the hike to Lake Agnes Tea House! I also recommend the guided free hikes with Kevin from the lodge. It is a wealth of info.

Overall-would definitley stay here again and loved the free canoes!

Room Tip: Spring for the Deluxe King Cabin if possible.

We were here early this 2012 season. The lodge and it's location were beautiful. Our room was immaculately cleaned. We did have tea in addition to coffee. The staff while clearly intelligent and trying very hard, was generally very, very inexperienced. They were trying too hard in their prim and proper dark shirts and ties, to be too prim and proper. They exhibited very little confidence in what they were doing, frankly most looked too scared of making a mistake. They had little to no local or park knowledge. We met the manager later, he did not seem intimidating and acted appropriately towards the staff that we could see. Later we saw him handling a reservation snafu in a very friendly and professional manner, both towards the visitor and his staff.
The noticiable difference with MLL and two other high end cabin/cottage resorts we stayed multiple nights at this trip. At those other two the staffs, while also young, had experience, if not at that resort, clearly at some other area resort. They had local knowledge and exuded confidence in performing their duties.
Enough negative. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. The mid-day bus groups were expected and were not a problem for us.
