“OK but Certainly Not Great, Pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We spent a few nights here because the reviews made us expect an outstanding hotel. We were disappointed. Nothing was seriously wrong (otherwise the rating would be lower), but it just did not live up to expectations we had for its price point, rating, and membership in the Relais & Chateaux.

Location-wise, there is nothing remarkable about this spot. For great views, the Fairmont would have been better.

Our room faced the parking lot and thus the railway tracks. We did not think much of it when we made the reservation. What we did not know: (1) Canadian trains use very, very loud diesel engines, (2) they are very, very long, (3) they do not weld the gaps between individual tracks so the wheels make a lot of noise. With the windows open at night (see below), this did not help get a good night's sleep. In addition, since the parking lot is apparently used as foot path from other hotels and the adjacent hostel to the small shopping center (including the liquor store) close by, one gets disturbed by noisy conversations and shouting outside.

This would probably have been bearable had the hotel had air conditioning, which it did not. At least in the summer, at least our room actually got very warm. Our room had two small windows that were equipped with mosquito screens and thus could be left open over night (the big windows did not open). The balcony door had to be kept closed to keep out the mosquitoes. Needless to say, the room was quite warm for most of the night.

In terms of furnishings, the room was reasonably appointed, with what one could describe as rustic charm. The jacuzzi seemed like a good idea, except that it is extremely noisy--like trying to relax with a vacuum cleaner running right next to you. This (and other) noise travels quite well in the building, incidentally, so we could hear when someone close by took a jacuzzi bath late at night.

Service was OK but not particularly customer oriented. On a couple of occasions, we asked for information at the front desk and got as an answer basically an "I don't know" (no "but I will find out for you"). It is not that we asked for solutions to second-order differential equations, but rather basic things that you would expect of a concierge.

Overall, nothing to write home about. It we were to return, we would try the Fairmont (or probably better stay in Banff itself).

Room Tip: Rooms facing away from the parking lot are probably less noisy

We stayed for 1 night in july as part of a bigger trip from calgary to vancouver. The staff were friendly and the room was clean. The room was small and boiling hot and as a previous reviewer said opening a window wasnt a great idea as it would make the noise of the train even louder. I understand the weather has been really hot however we have stayed in 4 other hotels on our trip and they have been all been far more comfortable, and alot cheaper. The location of the hotel was also fairly disappointing the grounds are nice however there is not much else around except a train line and what can only be described as a service station. I would suggest anyone visiting lake louise should stay further up the hill near the lake itself. The post hotel is completely overrated in my view!

Our family of four stayed in a train side room on our trip. The hotel is very nicely done, with fitness room, spa, pool, and hot tub. The rooms were also nice. Our only challenge was the lack of AC. On the hot day we were there, we wanted windows open for airflow but couldn't because of the noise from the train!

The Post is simply one of the finest resort hotels one could expect to find. Rooms are tasteful, clean and well appointed. Staff is always helpful and very responsive to any need. The restaurant is exceptionally good with well designed meals, GREAT wine options and attentive owners. My wife and I have stayed here many times over a 20+ year period and simply will not stay anywhere else in Lake Louise.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a "view" room, but even if you cannot get one, the rooms that overlook...

We took the 'gourmet' package at The Post to celebrate a special occasion - two nights, two breakfasts and a 6 course meal with wine pairings. I would highly recommend this. Our room had been upgraded which was a surprise. It was a large one bedroom with balcony and view of the rushing river. Breakfasts were fair. But the dinner was outstanding. Can't say enough about the quality, service and dining experience. This was topped off with a tour of their world class wine cellar. Lake Louise is a special place.

Room Tip: River side view of the river.

The Post is a remarkable hotel! We came here after eating at the restaurant 5 years ago (staying on Lake Louise then). Lived the restaurant so much and the fireplace in the tavern, we knew we had to stay here on our return. As a hiking trip, close to grand hikes and views, but with luxury after the hike. Pricey, but worth every penny. We stayed in 102, a cabin on the river. Turn down service, the river lulling you to sleep, the fire set up for easy start, chairs for lounging by the river, hot tea after hiking and a comfortable bed! The bathroom was a bit small, but the other amenities make up for that. We'll be back. Cannot imagine staying in a more perfect setting at Lake Louise (and avoiding the crowds at the Chateau).

Wifi:  Free, in room and you just select in - no log on, no code and works at a useable speed.

We had a ground floor room overlooking the gardens towards the river.   Its a fair sized room, with quite a lot of furniture in it, including a desk looking out to the gardens and a comfy sofa and chair.  The wardrobe has a safe.  There are no tea/coffee facilities, but you can get coffee "to go" from the restaurant and at times from reception.  The bed was comfortable.

Bathroom
This is spacious, with plenty of towels.  Bathrobe (just one, oddly, but very luxurious) and slippers.  The sink is inset in a spacious surface, with shelves underneath containing additional towels and the hairdryer.

The bath has a jacuzzi option and the shower is powerful.  The only drawbacks are that 1. it is fixed the wall and there is no handheld shower should you just wish to wash your hair and 2. shower curtain - personal pet hate of mine, as they can't be cleaned between visits

I used the spa, which was very nice - little touches like disposable razors and shaving foam in the showers.  There is a nice sitting room to enjoy before / after your treatment and I thought that the price was reasonable.

There is a nice bar / snug just past reception where you can enjoy your afternoon coffee looking out to the river.
