“Another excellent evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

It is always such a pleasure going to this restaurant as we've been going there from the very first day they opened (in 1981, I believe). My wife started with the Salmon trio and I started with the popular combo which included steak tartare - a dish I love! We then shared two delicacies for the main course ... the real SOLE, cleaned up very nicely table side and a Veal parmigiana - both of which were amazing. The service was also great as the well seasoned waiter has worked at some great places in Europe, the Cayman's and a few years back he also worked at the Post Hotel in Lake Louise. The restaurant features one of most extensive wine lists in Banff and the elegance of the restaurant shone through last night. We sat by the window of this second floor restaurant and watched the banter of a very busy night of people walking in the downtown area of Banff. Great views of the town and great views of the mountains make this one of very finest restaurants we go to in Western Canada.

“Our best dinner in Banff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

Despite its name, we would describe Le Beaujolais's menu as more continental than French. This is not a negative and not surprising, since the owner is Swiss. We liked the variety. My husband ordered their elk osso bucco that came with braised red cabbage and spinach spaetzle, an Italian/German combo. I ordered the day's special, veal saltimbocca (Italian), that came with saffron rice pilaf and a mix of four different different (beet, snow peas, carrots, and creamed turnip) vegetables. Everything was delicious. The osso bucco was in a luscious dark gravy and my husband was given a generous serving. The side dishes were very tasty and also generous. The saltimbocca was comprised of several thin sauteed veal cutlets topped with a thin layer of cheese and served over a light sage cream sauce. The vegetables were perfectly cooked, and even the turnip, not my favorite vegetable, was deliciou--I at it all. Only the pilaf was a bit puzzling. It tasted very much of butter and was quite creamy and didn't seem very saffron-y. Again, the quantities were generous, which is sometimes not the case in upscale restaurants. We thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality/quantity of the food, especially in comparison to other menus in Banff, which is not cheap. In addition, we asked our server to recommend a half bottle of wine for us to share, and her recommendation of a Spanish rioja reserva proved just right. I thought their wine list had a good selection of wines from countries as well as France. Although the tone of the restaurant is sort of formal, the server was congenial and it didn't feel stuffy. Service was excellent and the tip was not automatically included (per a previous reviewer's rant.) The full windows on two sides from which we could see the park and mountain tops was beautiful. We definitely recommend this restaurant.

“Service was excellent food and drink fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We have visited this restaurant on many occasions over the last 12 years. We were there for our anniversary dinner. We choose the 6 course surprise dinner with wine paring. The meal as always was incredible. What made this visit very memorable was our waitress Tallulah. Her knowledge of the wines that were served with each course was excellent as was her presentation of the meal itself, her description of each course and how the wine matched with it was bang on. She knew when to be at the table and chat and when to leave. Her spacing of the different courses was very good. We will definitely return again and we really hope Tallulah is working there. We had recently gone to Oregon with good friends for a wine tasting vacation and we were excited to see wines from this area on the wine list.

“Always a great choice for a special night out!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013 via mobile

We celebrate our anniversary every year with a dinner out. We've chosen Le Beaujolais several times and it never disappoints! We get the surprise dinner, often with the wine pairing (if we have a designated driver - it's a lot of wine!). The food quality is excellent and service is great. Fine Dining at its best.

“What a surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We were looking for something other than steak and ribs and chanced on this hidden restaurant by chance. There are two ways in on different streets and it majors on the fine dining experience. However the Bistro is excellent. We had Beef Bourginoin Pie and a fish dish. They were both absolutely excellent but best of all it was a relaxed meal without the "bums on seats" mentality. Highly recommended. The only downside was the classical radio station they were piping around which was too loud.
