We were driving past Banff but had to pull over to grab lunch as we were starving. We tried to go to The Terrace which was across the street from Melissa's but they would not be open for another 30 minutes. As I had already started to starve 2 hours earlier, we decided to go to Melissa's. The ambiance is like a log cabin, very simple, needs a little bit updating. Our server was a seasonal worker and her accent was fun to decipher. The menu was boring and unoriginal; it was actually very hard to decide on what to eat, or rather, predict on what was going to be good. I ordered a hot chocolate to begin; it was ok. I was trying to make a decision between the Alberta Beef Dip and something else, but she suggested the dip as many people like it. My husband got the steak sandwich; he asked how he should order his steak as he was worried about not being able to eat it; she advised that he order it like he would order any steak, so he ordered it medium; big mistake. He could barely chew through his steak, let alone at it like a sandwich, so he was a little upset over it. I ended up giving him half my sandwich, which was actually pretty good. I think this place is a hit or miss, depending on what you order, at the same time, think of it as a diner, and I would never order a steak and expect it to be perfect if I ordered it from this place. It's still a good place to grab a casual bite to eat.
