“High Quality Lodging in Banff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

We stayed in one of the suites during our family vacation to Banff. Suite was well-furnished with modern fixtures, a small kitchen, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms plus a pull-out sofa. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were are high quality. Another amenity was that the windows opened, so we could breath the fresh mountain air instead of the stuffy hotel air that you are often stuck with in more traditional hotels with sealed windows. Overall, we were very impressed by the quality and cleanliness of the rooms.

The free breakfast offered is a slightly fancier continental breakfast, with make-your-own waffles, fruit, and pastries. The hotel is in an ideal location right on Banff Avenue, and you can easily walk to anywhere in Banff that you would like to go. Parking is free and on site.

Room Tip: The exercise room does NOT include a treadmill. There is no pool on site, but the expanded hot tub...

June 21st to June 24th 2014
We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay in this hotel. On arrival, Check-in was efficient. We were met by very friendly staff who made us feel welcome and gave us all the information we needed to help us settle in. Free Parking is available underneath the hotel with lift access to the rooms. The hotel is within walking distance to down town, (approx 10 to 15 minutes). There is a laundry, free Wifi and also a computer and printer available to quests. In the morning a free buffet style breakfast with enough choice for everyone, is on offer. The room was clean and air conditioned and the bed very comfortable. It was also a relief to have a safe in the room. If you feel adventurous, free bus passes are available at the front desk and are good for the entire stay. You also receive a discount booklet, providing discount offers in shops and restaurants in Banff. Residents have access to the Hot Tub & Sauna area which was nice and relaxing at the end of a busy day. The restaurant and bar offer a varied menu. The food was good and reasonably priced. As expected there is a little noise in the evening but after 11pm all goes quite. We had reason to complain about the people in the next room (over excitement on there first night) but as soon as we spoke to reception the noise ceased immediately. All the staff throughout the hotel including the cleaners were very helpful and friendly. In our opinion The Fox Hotel & Suites is a truly lovely place to stay. We would go back there again and certainly recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard are probably more susceptible to noise.

Rather than book online at a reduced rate, we opted to reserve our 3 night stay by calling the hotel and paying an extra $40 per night. It was the only way to assure a queen size bed. We understand now why they use so many double beds...rooms are tiny. Room was very small and dark, no air conditioning. There was a fan which we kept on constantly due to uncommonly warm temperatures. Loved the exterior, lobby, and particularly the gracious Fox staff. But for U.S. residents, the cramped room at $269++ per night was a turn off.

Thankfully, we only stayed at this hotel for one night in Banff. We were on our honeymoon and were on a return from Jasper to Calgary. We had previously stayed the Fairmont Banff Springs for 4 nights and a cabin in Jasper for two nights. I stayed at this hotel due to the good reviews on trip advisor and the nice hot tub. I had mentioned it was our honeymoon on the reservation looking for a free upgrade or something. When we checked in we had the option to upgrade at a discounted rate but couldn't afford the price (the room was already 300). We had the standard hotel room I guess with a single queen. The room was small but clean. It was very stuffy in the room so I proceeded to turn on the A/C, but there was none. Maybe there should be a warning on the reservation or maybe the desk clerk should have said this room does not have A/C. I did open the top portion of the window and found a fan in the closet. It never cooled off in the room because it was already getting late and we had to close the blinds. Although it got cool at night, it never cooled off in the room and taking showers definitely didn't help. I know a lot of places don't have A/C because you only need it one month out of the year. Yes, they have free breakfast but so does motel 8. It's right on the street and so with the window open we heard lots of road traffic. we didn't get to use the hot tub because it was busy Sunday night and Monday morning we opted to go to the Upper Hot Springs. There was no view to speak of as our window looked inside the courtyard at some stairs. I had planned to voice my concerns at check-out but the desk clerk didn't ask if I enjoyed my stay or anything just said bye and have a nice day. On a plus note, they did leave us a cheap bottle of champagne.

In summary, I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel in a regular room in the summer. The suites may be better and it really seems like a ski lodge. For the price I paid, I feel I did not get a good value for my money.

Room Tip: get a/c in the summer

We stayed in one of the two level suites with the bedroom and bath upstairs. The unit was well appointed, except for the AC (air conditioning) . You had to set the thermostat at it's lowest setting of 58 to keep the upstairs tolerable to sleep but by the time you were comfortable to sleep it was time to get out if bed and the downstairs was like an igloo. So you had to crank the temp back up to 68 to make the lower level tolerable and start the whole process again the next evening. Maybe placing an auxiliary cooling unit in the upstairs would eliminate this issue . But the front desk and housekeeping staff were great. And there's a Chili 's right in the hotel for good food and drinks. And the unique cave hot pool area is the hotel's claim to fame, complete with separate sauna and showers with an open roof for star gazing at night!

We had two nights booked, but unfortunately Air Canada cancelled our flight and we only managed the one night which was a great shame. The staff were very welcoming and the room was lovely. We had a room over looking the courtyard which was fine, there was enough blinds at the windows to create enough privacy.

It was lovely to have breakfast in the morning included with the room, not the best but I did enjoy making my own waffle!

We had a drink in the bar and very much enjoyed talking to the waiter.

The walk downtown was just perfect after sitting on a long flight.

The reception staff were very helpful when we needed to contact our next day excursion and helping with times etc.

Thank you for making us feel very welcome.

Stayed in loft suite 2 beds with living room on top and bedroom on basement. Location on Main Street. 10 minutes walk to city centre so a quiet hotel . Hot pools available . Friendly staff
Room rather small for 4 people . Chillies restaurant next to the hotel . Free parking (limited could get difficult) . Heard mixed reviews that hotel could be too noisy , but I did not find it at all even we stayed on weekends

Room Tip: Ask room away from centre court if you want quieter room
