“Wonderful B & B with Fantastic Hosts!!!”

We just returned home from a Canadian Rockies vacation. We spent the first night of our vacation and the last day of our vacation at Buffaloberry. We wanted somewhere on route to Jasper National Park. And then back closer to the airport. Buffaloberry fit the bill. Teresa and James were great!!! They were very helpful in several areas. We stayed in the Oatmeal and Chaff room and the Mens room. Both were very, very nice. As far as the walls being thin. We never heard any noise from other rooms at all. I was not feeling well the morning before we left, and Teresa and James were kind enough to send me on my way with some wonderful raisin bread for later. They also prepared a pumpkin pie for desert the last night. Breakfasts were extremely good. We hope to make another trip to Canada next fall. We only hope we are lucky enough to spend another couple nights at this awesome B & B. Thanks Teresa and James!!!

“A nice place to stay, not the best in town”

Buffaloberry is a nice place to stay if you are in Banff, but it is not the best in town, especially for the price. The accommodations were clean and up-to-date. Breakfast was a family-style affair, and the food was tasty.

The B&B is relatively new construction. The inn was billed as an historic building. Actually, they completely remodeled the building such that it has the feel of a brand-new building. The decor in the rooms resembled my aunt's house as opposed to the usual character I've come to expect in B&Bs.

The walls are thin, so when we were trying to sleep, we were kept awake by talking in the hall. The view is nothing remarkable, and it's pretty removed from town.

At $300/ night, you can do better.

Management Response

We understand that you cannot please everyone all of the time, although from this review I would question some of the facts that the reviewer has noted. First off, the Buffaloberry has never been billed as a historical house. The building is not even three years old, hardly making this a historical house! This brings me to the second point the author makes. They have suggested that the 'building was remodeled so that it has the feel of a brand-new building'. It would be very extravagent to remodel a building that was constructed right from the foundation only two years earlier!
Most modern houses in Canada today are built with 4" interior walls. Regarding the comment about "thin walls", the Buffaloberry is built as a Bed and Breakfast, and with this in mind we put solid core doors and 6" plus walls in the interior separating the other rooms and the hallway with double drywall and insulation between the rooms to add sound proofing and separate temperature control. Sentive sleepers possibly.
The "Old's Room" which is the room these guests stayed in, (picture available on our website) has four large windows, three of which look on to "Cascade Mountain" which is the mountain typically photograghed off the end of Banff Avenue on many a post card.
The Buffaloberry is three blocks from the core of downtown and another bed and breakfast which they have stayed at on their same visit is two blocks. The difference here (one block) is considered removed from town, by these folks,(25-34 yrs old)!
We know that other B&B's in town have been remodled. I'm wondering that more than a month after a probably a very busy vacation that some of their details have become cloudy.

“Best ever B&B”

Buffaloberry Bed and Breakfast

Sep 10, 2007

"Best B&B in the world!" Better than home! This luxury B&B was a great find! James & Theresa couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. Theresa has a flair for interior design which makes the whole house a wonderful place in which to relax and unwind after a day out travelling, hiking and exploring the Rockies. The bedroom was extremely comfortable, and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Breakfasts were a dream! James and Theresa have a very professional approach to the hospitality business, and excel in every way - gourmet cookery, tourist advice on a host of subjects, warm welcome. We have stayed in many B&Bs around the world, but nowhere comes up to the standard of this one.

“Excellent, exceeded all our expectations”

Buffaloberry Bed and Breakfast

Aug 28, 2007

My husband and I spent two nights at the Buffaloberry on our way to Jasper and we were not disappointed. The owners, Theresa and James were very welcoming and our bedroom was extremely well appointed and spotless (we stayed in the "Wheat and Chaffe" room). The Buffaloberry
is more akin to a boutique hotel rather than a B&B and the attention to detail is fantastic. Another real plus point is the breakfasts which are delicious and varied every day (Theresa's home made muffins
are worth a special mention)! We were also grateful for our hosts knowledge of the local area including restaurants and hikes.

We have just returned from a five day stay in Banff, Canada, at the Buffaloberry Bed and Breakfast. It was by far the best accommodations we have experienced in a number of travels this year, and we are picky. The owners designed and built this beautiful property and thought of every detail in doing so. The rooms are spacious, spotless, and beautifully decorated. Each morning the host and hostess provided us with a delicious breakfast of several courses. If you have special food needs, all you have to do is tell them, and they are most accommodating. Since they have worked in food service in some of the larger resort hotels during their career, they know exactly how to make guests feel at home and most welcomed. They also had mixed drinks or after dinner liquers for you when you returned in the evening from your long day of activities. We also appreciated the fact that they told us about particular places to visit, a wonderful show performed by David Rogers (who played the lead in Phantom of the Opera in Toronto for many seasons), great hikes, and terrific restaurants. We initially learned about the Buffaloberry from Frommer's Travel Guide, and because of its glowing review, we decided to stay there. We are SO GLAD we made that choice. Their web site is [--]. The owners, Theresa and James, are wonderful hosts.
