“A nice ride to start”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2014

This trail goes from Canmore to Banff. It is paved all the way, and mostly not too challenging. The views are really nice at some points, but at others you feel the road too much. The length is nice to bike in to Banff, get lunch, then head back. Good for kids or without. However, there is musch more spectacular biking in and around Banff, so while this is a good trail to get your feet wet, don't stop here!

“Great family weekend activity”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2014 via mobile

The Banff Legacy Trail runs between Canmore and Banff Alberta. It is a great outing for a family activity. We traveled on our bikes round trip. Two twelve year olds and rapidly aging parents. We found the trail quite receptive to the occasional biker. The run from Banff to Canmore is the easier half. You can also take the Banff Roamer # 3 green line bus either way. They load bikes and you can enjoy a nice lunch and ride. The bus is clean, fast and roomy.

“Nice they build it - but too close to the highway”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2014

This is nice if you are a road biker, or if you go with the whole family. You can stop and look at the lakes and the mountains. But I don't like it because of the traffic.

Peaceful trail, very picturesque with the river, falls, trees and the mountains. Well kept trail also.

“Can commute from Canmore instead of staying in Banff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2014

I saved a fair of money at a conference at the Banff Centre by staying in Canmore and riding my bike to the Banff Centre each day. It took an hour and a half to the conference centre and an hour back. I averaged 18 km/h on way to Banff and 25 on way back. They are still repairing the damage from the big flood in a couple of places but it should be all done for next summer. We are talking about small stretches two or three hundred metres (218 - 328 yards). It is close to the highway but not right next to it except for the repair detours. There is a small rest stop with picnic tables and a rest room just under half way between Banff and Canmore. I noticed most people stopped there for 5-10 minutes. There are a couple of very short hills that are fairly steep but all the rest are moderate.

I am not a hard core biker and was riding an electric bike that I used pedal assist for only on the steeper uphill portions bike. Make sure you take water with you.
