“Amazingly beautiful Banff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

We went to banff in 1990 on our honeymoon (skiing). Always said we wanted to go back in the summer. 22 years later we returned. It is such a beautiful place. The mountains are just "peakier" than the Colorado Rockies. The trees so dense that from afar, they look like a well manicured lawn at the bottom of the mountains. The rivers and streams were flowing rapidly and created so many impromptu waterfalls falling from cliffs. And the wildlife! We saw a total of 14 bears (brown, black and Grizzly), Elk, bighorn sheep, and of course the chipmunks. I highly recommend traveling in late June before the crowds show up. Try the Johnston Canyon hike, Stewart Canyon hike, Gondola to top of Sulphur Mountain and Hoodoo trail. Town is adorable but stay at a place outside of town to keep things more peaceful.

“Beautiful Banff - Breathtakingly beautiful, as always”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2012

I have been to Banff numerous times with growing up in Alberta. You forget how beautiful, quaint, scenic and breathtaking it is until you see it again. As Albertan's we forget that we live in one of the most beautiful provinces as this beauty is only a few hours away.

There are good dining options, Earls, Grizzly Fondue, great chocolate shoppes like the Fi=udgery and a Safeway.

“Banff Avenue was our home for a month”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2012

We enjoyed the rugged scenery from our livingroom window as we sipped our morning coffee. Then we took a walk down Banff Avenue to the Bow River where we walked along the river and then up the hill to the Banff Springs Hotel. This is a great place to view the Banff area as well as take a break on the way back down the hill to Banff Avenue again. We shopped in Safeway and we also found a great Whole Grain restaurant ( I think it was called that as well) where the soup and bread were delicious. We stopped at the public library just a block off of Banff Avenue and checked our email on their computers and then headed back up Banff Avenue to our condo. We took a drive over to Lake Louise and visited Chateau Lake Louise which was quite busy and interesting. The lake was still somewhat frozen at the far end towards the glacial looking shore but it was beautiful. On another day we took a walk up Tunnel Mountain and we had to stop on several occassions to catch our breath. We also caught the views of the Banff area as went up and we took a little rest at the top while sitting on some rocks looking over the valley below.

We truly enjoyed our month in Banff and we recommend it to anyone who likes a variety of activities along with quite a few fellow travellers.

“This is a shopping avenue, not a true image of Banff National Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

Banff Avenue has some interesting shops in it but it isn't what Banff is. Banff has things you really should explore and go to, like hikes, the river, bow falls... Banff Avenue does have some impressive shopping. Some highlights are Rocks and Gems, Cows, Welch's Candy Shop, and many others. The best place to park is just off of Banff Avenue, where the Whyte museum is. It is 2 hour parking, has restrooms, and is right in front of the Bow River. FYI no rv's in that parking lot.
