“Interesting, but.......!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

Visited on a hot August day, so the combination of mosquitos and the pervading smell of sulphur was a bit offputting. Searched in vain for the "famous" Banff Spring Snail (Physella johnsoni), obviously a rare beast! However, the exhibition/display on the history of Canadian National Parks was very interesting, especially as it was in the shade! Good views of the magnificant scenery. Also visited Vermillion Lake on other side of valley which was beautifully quiet and rich in dragonflies.

“I enjoyed the Internment Pavilion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

I attended the opening of the Pavilion explaining Canada's first national internment operations of 1914 to 1920. The Pavilion reviews this historical event and refers to the 24 concentration camps that were opened across Canada during WWI. The Pavilion sits on the area that housed the internees - mostly Ukrainian Canadians.
If visiting the Cave and Basin, the Pavilion is located just behind the main sight - unfortunately it is poorly signed and the Pavilion can be easily mistaken as an unmarked administration building.

A nice place to see some of the history of the Banff area. I remember when the Cave and Basin was open as a Hot pool. it was nice.

“Visit the place where Banff began”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Take a couple of hours and either ride a bike or walk out to the Cave and Basin for a look around. If you like history you will get the whole story about Banff and you will see the original cave that started it all. Back in the day when I worked at the Cave and Basin we used to jump in the pool and have a swim. You can't do that anymore but it's still fun to visit. There's a movie and some boardwalk trekking to do to the sulfur pools. Hold your nose if you don't like the smell!

“Nice to see it again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

I almost forgot about the Cave and Basin. They did a very good job setting it up like a museum although it wasn't finished. The hall with the row of screens telling the story was excellent. I think they need to put a pool there again to make it complete.
