“New and Good Tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

We went on the second day since it was opened. It was rainy, but we had a great tour. The information was very good, the new centre was interesting and the displays were excellent. Worth the visit.

“Great Job!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

The renovated Cave and Basin is excellent. There is now an interpretive center dedicated to mostly Ukrainian slave labor that was interned in Banff and Castle Mountain from 1914-1920. Good to see that the forced contribution of a few is being remembered and honored in the park. Official unveiling is on June 20 at 2pm MST. Public is welcome.

“view from above?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

You can pay to visit this site and see the original cave pool as well as various displays, some of which are media-driven. However, in today's information age, you can learn much of this information on the Internet. There is a nice (and free) boardwalk (with numerous stairs leading up the side of the mountain) which takes you up to some hot springs/snail sights and provides views of the exterior pool, set up as it was in the early years; there are many interpretive signs which help explain the history. If you wish to save some money just do the walk; it starts to the left of the stairs leading to the Cave & Basin NHS.

“Enjoyed opening weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

Good to see the Cave and Basin re-opened and renovated as we are interested in the history of the beautiful country to which we have moved. It was good to go inside the cave and try to imagine what it would have been like for those who found it for the first time. Parks Canada has done a good job with the renovation and supplying helpful information about the site but still kept the entrance fee at a reasonable price. It was very busy on the opening weekend (Victoria Day) and the parking lot was packed (probably because it was a rainy day, it was a popular place for families to go). Definitely worth a visit if you want to get some background to the history of the national parks. Not sure if it is interactive enough for families with small children, i.e. there is not a lot to climb on, but for pre-teens who are learning about the history, it can be a useful visit.
