“Beautiful spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

I recently stayed here with family and we absolutely loved the place. The cabin was very cozy, clean, and the staff were wonderful. The place is pet friendly which was a must for us. Very pet friendly actually as they even had a little bowl of dog treats for our canine companion upon arrival. The location is a little bit of a drive from Banff so it is not overly convenient for dining out there, but in my opinion it is well worth getting accomodations away from the town just to have the tranquility. Far nicer to cook in the cabin and enjoy a glass of wine on your own deck than to deal with the raucous crowds in Banff! There are some nice show-shoeing/x-country skiing trails right out of the doorstep, and the outdoor hot tub provides welcome relief to the aches that later accompany these activities. I intend to try and come here again in the summer time as I imagine it must be equally as lovely then.

We stayed here in a deluxe cabin (#5) for two nights in February with our dog and had a truly relaxing time. Every member of staff we met was friendly and helpful and when we had a problem getting the jacuzzi bubbling, someone was at our cabin within minutes to fix it. I had a great night's sleep here too. Earplugs completely blocked out the occasional train noise so don't be put off staying here because of them. The onsite shop is well stocked and our cabin had a good selection of kitchen equipment, crockery, etc. Some of the furnishings were dated and looked a bit worn around the edges but our cabin was spotlessly clean. Overall it was a great experience and I really appreciated the small details they paid attention to like making sure you have plenty of firewood for a roaring fire (they also set it for you, so all you have to do is strike a match!), a generous stock of tea/coffee and a little tub of bath salts for the jacuzzi.

My boyfriend and I went here for two nights to celebrate an anniversary. Last year we stayed at the Banff Fairmont and without thinking twice we both would choose Castle Mountain again. We loved it there. It was easy to find, you could apparently take the highway right to it but we took the scenic route from the 1A through the Bow Valley Parkway. I would recommend taking the 1A. Castle Mountain is literaly half way between Banff and Lake Louise. (28 minutes to Banff, 27 minutes to Lake Louise.) We got there, checking in took a few minutes but literally everyone was there checking in for the stay. I didnt get the mans name checking us in but he was awesome, so friendly and helpful. We were in chalet #5 get this one if you want a view of a mountain literally walked out the door every morning and a huge mountain right there. We had a one bedroom deluxe and it was perfect.

Yes you do have to bring your own food and snacks and whatever else but thats just adds to the experience of staying somewhere in the mountains. We were however rushed leaving Calgary so were not able to do our groceries at our local store so we went to lake louise the first day and they just have a little store very expensive. Second day we went into Banff and they have a Safeway but still very expensive too. There is a little store at Castle Mountain but also expensive and just mainly snacks and things that you could have forgotten.

They do have 3 different areas for BBQ pits and there were people out bbqing in the cold so they are available to use. It is pet friendly, you would have never guessed it though it was so quiet the whole time we were there and we saw dogs walking around the whole time.

We loved the room, for the price that we paid I think it was worth it maybe even more then what we expected. Flat screen, with a dvd player. Stone wall with a fireplace. That was my boyfriend's favorite part, tending the fire. Everything in the kitchen was clean and worked. Bathroom was the perfect size; shower, jacuzzi, and big sink area. Bedroom was also very nice, very comfortable.

There were some reviews saying the trains were mainly the bad point for staying here. The train track in honestly like 100ft away from the chalets so yes you are going to hear the trains. But knowing that, this is still going to be the place I choose to go to for a little getaway. There is too many nice things at this location for one little thing like hearing trains to stop me from going. I've already booked to go back in a few months, we have family coming to visit and this would be an amazing spot to bring them for a few nights.
So yes I would recommend this place to anyone. We had an amazing time.

Room Tip: We had Chalet #5 wonderful view of the mountains right outside the door. People infront of us checki...

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about your experience with us at Castle Mounatin Chalets. Its always great to hear that we helped make your weekend enjoyable, especially if you were also here to celebrate an anniverary.

It is also always nice to hear that the team was friendly and helpful. I will make sure to pass along your nice comments about Jarrad (front desk guy who checked you in).

On a side note, Canmore also has a Safeway and a Sobeys for groceries that you may not have been able to pick up. The stores are much larger than what is in Banff and Lake Louise, so it does offer a bigger selection and sometimes more affordable choices :).

Again, thank you! We look forward to hosting you again!

Spent a few days at Castle Mountain Chalets with my family, it was out first trip with our newborn (3mos) and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the 1 bedroom deluxe and it was very spacious.. Staff is very friendly and checked everyday to see if we needed anything..

As some people have mentioned there are train tracks right by the cabins and they are pretty loud but they don't come by all that often and pass very quickly.. I'm a light sleeper and they never woke me up.... Screaming newborn.. That's a different story..

This was our second visit to castle mountain, we will definitely be back and may just make it an annual trip for our family..

The chalets are in the shadow of Castle Mountain, one of the most distinctive peaks in the Canadian Rockies. I love the location midway between Banff and Lake Louise. The cabins are very nice and comfortable, and well maintained. They're easy to get to, and there is lots of wildlife in the area.

Unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks.

This was our second stay at Castle Mountain Chalets - the first was in 1998 as a couple. On this most recent stay we brought our 11 year old twins with us. If you're traveling as a couple, the one bedroom deluxe cabin is great. For a family of four, not so much. The second bed is a pullout couch in the living room. It was uncomfortable, but you can't expect much comfort from a sleeper sofa. The problem is that there is a skylight in the living room, and due to the northern latitude, the sun stays out quite late in the summer. It's hard to sleep in a perfectly bright room, and there's no way to cover the skylight. If you've got more than two people in your group, stay in the two bedroom cabin. The light wouldn't be a problem in the winter, though.

The other drawback is the train noise - other people have talked about it in their reviews, but we stayed there anyway because we didn't remember it being bad on our first trip. I don't know if the train horns are just louder now than they used to be, or if it was something else, but whatever the reason, the noise was a LOT worse than it was on our first trip. We did stay in a cabin that was closer to the tracks this time, but I don't think that could make too much of a difference - all the cabins are fairly close. Maybe some cabins have better insulation than others. We typically were woken up multiple times per night by trains.

I like the chalets, but due to the trains and the fairly high prices, we probably won't stay here again.
