“Not bad for a place to just sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2014

Compared to the other hotel prices in Banff, it was the cheapest we could find with our Best of Banff gift card. The room was big, 4 queen beds in the entire room, that was set up like a little apartment. The beds were not bad, but not the mountain beds they said they were. And everything was outdated and pretty grundy. We tried to open a window to get some air, but it was screwed shut and the maintenance guy couldn't fix it. We had to register at another hotel (the Ptarmigan right beside it) but I don't think they were considered the same. Not a horrible place, but still more pricey then I think it's worth, but then again it's Banff and most things are overpriced.

The other reviews align with our observations... but it is a BUDGET accommodation and any one that books now days without reviewing is a TAD CRAZY I think.

We found the fan in the cupboard and without this it would have been uncomfortable.

The entry is a bit daunting/vacant... but the room was at least clean, as was the bathroom. Th staff next door were helpful...

To help.......

We were there on Aug 2nd and the town was very busy (abt 20% busier due to public holiday on top of usual summer crowd) and the drive to Lake Louise was VERY slow and much quicker to park on the downward lane as soon as it starts to get slow and walk up and back.

Also make sure you book your restaurants........ especially the good ones.

The location is perfect, in the center of Banff town, where you can walk to supermarket in 5 minutes. The receiption is inside the next door Ptarmigan Inn. The staffs are friendly, & very helpful. Guests can rent bikes, & we rented 3 days when we stayed there. The price is good for budget travellers. If the room can equip refrigerator, it will be more convenience for guests.

I read the reviews and thought the negatives were not so bad. Hotel is at rear of property so hard to see from street. Close parking was awkward. Poor signage to check in at Ptarmigan Inn. Weird empty space where lobby was located. Large room with poor lighting. Hot soda machine. No a/c or fan. I would have overlooked all this but I could not ignore the NOISE. I was woken several times by what sounded like a fraternity party right behind my room. Plus the designated smoking area was right outside window. Told the front desk who basically blamed me for choosing this hotel. Second night I was treated to heavy bass music. Did not bother to complain again. Hotel is in great location and rooms on opposite side may be fine.

Room Tip: Rooms on back side of property are closest to noisy streets.

No AC, very hot, did have a fan in the room, window hinges broken, no screen, door jamb has been broken several times and did not feel safe. Bed was in the shape of an old worn out saddle. Parking was scarce.
On the good side was location, location, location. Bathroom was clean, rest of the motel, not so much.

This is one of the cheaper options in Banff, so obviously we were prepared for an older room, no lift, check in at the hotel next door, old TV with distorted colours, etc. I have no problems with that. But on our first night, while the sheets were clean I could see a dark stain on the mattress protector below. The next morning I asked for the bedding to be changed. The front desk staff were apologetic. When we returned the bedding was changed but there was a pillowcase lying on the floor. Good location and nice soap were the only positives about this place. Next time I will be more than happy to pay a little extra for a cleaner hotel in Banff.

It was the only decent priced thing in banff . every hotel in banff is overpriced. It was moderately clean, but definately not spotless. Bed was pretty comfy. using the other hotel's amenities was a nice bonus. Not a great place to stay but not a complete dump.
