“mixed bag; watch out for loft rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2010

We found the Rundlestone to be in a good location and it did have a view out the back of mountains from our room, and it was kept quite clean. We wanted a kitchen so had the loft room with the back mountain view. However, the loft had no window and got quite warm, even when it was very cool outside. We asked for a fan and put it by the open downstairs window and that helped. However, another problem was a large coach bus that warmed up its diesel engine every morning at 6:45 AM, not only noisily, but spewing out diesel exhaust that came in our window. . Another draw back was that in the middle of the night the steep loft stairs were difficult to traverse, and climbing them got your heart pumping enough to make getting back to sleep difficult.

So, we wouldn't recommend a loft room at the R. Lodge.

There were many things I really liked about this hotel, not the least of which was the bedroom quality, which was the largest and most comfortable among the 7 hotels we used in this western Canada road trip. One king and one queen bed in separate wings--quite decadent! And a nice balcony and decent view to boot. The separate sink outside the bathroom was another luxury I like. Other things I liked include the handsome pool and hot tub area which almost had an outdoor feel to it (although outdoor pools aren't possible in Canada for obvious reasons), as well as the inexpensive laundry room, clean facilities and friendly staff. It's the first hotel after leaving the TransCanada highway, so it's a 15-minute walk from downtown which is fine in the summer, but I imagine difficult in the winter. My main dislike was that the hot water temperature kept changing wildly while taking a shower, which made showering very unpleasant. They need to get their plumbing re-piped or something. Despite that setback, I would certainly be open to staying there again, as the price was reasonable (probably due to being a bit of a walk from town).

Clean comfortable hotel only 10 min walk to downtown Banff. Everthing about this hotel was great . Very friendly and helpful staff . Big beautiful rooms (we had a loft suite) . Well appointed kitchenette .Balcony with chairs and beatiful views. Two bathrooms (one upstairs has toilet and sink only) Comfortable beds and seating . Lots of storage space for clothes . Free dvd's to borrow from the front desk . Free use of hotel bikes . Underground parking. Great wifi in room . Beautiful indoor pool and great workout area. We will definately stay and the Rundlestone on our next visit to Banff and highly recommend it as an excellent place to stay .

We spent many hours looking over reviews of hotels in Banff before we decided on the Rundlestone Lodge. There was alot of talk in the reviews about the beds being uncomfortable, the hotel being outdated and too long of a walk from downtown Banff. BUT it is also rated number 7 out of all the hotels in Banff, so it made sense to give it a try. We booked the romance package in the Jacuzzi loft suite with King Bed and arrived to a bottle of already chilled sparkling wine, a (very yummy) chocolate lovers basket and bath salts and candles for the jacuzzi. I can not express how comfortable our room was....it was so comfortable and clean that I wasn't sure if I wanted to leave. The front desk staff were nothing less than exceptional and were eager to help you decide on a great restaurant to eat or recommend a quality activity to make your experience in Banff everything it should be. Yes, it is a little ways away from the downtown of Banff, but there is a bus stop half a block down from the hotel. We didn't find it a bother to walk as we ate so much while we were there, that the exercise was good. We loved that it was far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown that we had a quiet place to go and rest but close enough that we could be into the hustle and bustle within minutes. Overall, we felt this hotel was the closest thing to home. You are welcomed into the hotel and the restaurant like you have been there all along, the bed is incredibly comfortable and the decor represents a comfortable and relaxed environment. For us, it was the best hotel we have stayed in. If I HAD to criticize, I would recommend comforters on the beds but our room had a thermostat that we could control the temperature in the room so it was never a problem.

Beautiful area, just a 10 minute walk to "Downtown" Banff.
The hotel was gorgeous and had a beautiful Lodge theme. We received a free upgrade because they over booked. Though we started out with a 2 Queen room, we ended up with a Fireplace Suite, two levels. It was amazing.
Additionally, the room had a DVD player and there was a pretty decent complimentary DVD selection in the main floor lounge, and guests could just sign out the DVD's of their choice whenever they wanted.
There was even a restaurant attached to the hotel, and unlike some destination hotels, the prices were pretty decent.
Overall a wonderful hotel!

It is a good 15 min walk into Banff, but this does keep you away from the hustle and bustle in the height of summer - it's a busy place!

Clean rooms and good choice for breakfast.

Staff were friendly and booked trips at our request

I thought this was very good value
