“pretty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

We walked from our hotel through town and along the road to surprise corner. Sadly, we were not so impressed with the falls after seeing other grander falls in Yoho and along the Icefields Parkway.

“The name is fitting; the surprise is the best photo op of The Fairmont Hotel at Banff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

We drove our car following the very well marked and easy to follow Canada National Parks Map of the Banff Area, and were rewarded at Surprise Corner with a perfect photo op of the Grand Dame hotel from across the Bow River.

“A different surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

The view of the Banff Springs Hotel from the viewing platform is the most common sight; but, taking the fairly rugged hike down from the parking lot (not towards Hoodoo), towards the Bow River will give you a view of the Bow Falls below the bluff.. However, the much safer vantage point is from the opposite side of the river. Take the road that leads to the Banff Springs golf course, and use the stairway that yields a great view of the falls below.

“you call that a surprise?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

I was looking for more, but the view of the Castle, no matter how grand it is, does not constitute " Surprise"
I love Banff Springs Hotel, but this corner is one of those " see it on your way to something" type of attraction. Does not merit a special trip just to come here.

“Easy Access to a Memorable View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

Head up Buffalo Street toward Tunnel Mountain and you run into this view within a mile (1.3 km). There is a small parking lot or you can enjoy the walk up and along the Bow River from town. There is a viewing platform accessible by a short staircase, or you can walk up along the road to take a picture across the guardrail.

Note that there is a pedestrian crossing right at the hairpin turn by the parking lot, so be careful if you choose to drive up. Large buses also tend to park next to the road at the turn.

A short trail heads down and to the right from the back of the parking lot to Bow Falls. If you go down and to the left, then you take the pretty and easy Hoodoo Trail along the Bow River for 3.5 miles.
