“MUST Do attraction!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

This is one of those experiences you just have to do! Worth every penny. We were lucky enough to be on one of the first buses of the day, and we had a small group--about a dozen. Our sno-coach driver was James Chambers and he was fantastic! So enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly. Standing on the glacier was peaceful and phenomenal! Incredible views. One of those 'once in a lifetime' experiences.

“Worth every penny! Highly recommended!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

This is a must do when you are around Banff area. A once in a lifetime experience to be on the glacier and it's something you won't forget. The tour started at the Icefield center then we were dropped off by bus to ride this really cool and special vehicle for the glacier. BRAD- our ice explorer driver's great at his job. He seems to love being there. It's a really cool experience. We're planning to the take the kids there next year.

“Scenery FANTASTIC - Tour AVERAGE”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

The scenery is phenomenal! However, I must keep the scenery separate from the tour. The tour itself has flaws. You are constantly being reminded "don't be late"...over and over again. I get it - twice is enough. It became an annoying nuisance. There was a 1/2 hour stop at some weird market, which was a waste of time. Then they give you a buffet lunch, but only 45 minutes for it. Conveniently, hundreds of Japanese tourists were on the buffet line as we got there. We did not have enough time to finish lunch and were rushed the whole time. Then, on to the ice-field tour. The Glacier is 7 miles long by 3 miles wide. Yet they cram over a hundred people into an area the size of a hockey rink and tell you that you can't go outside the boundary. This really worked well with our kids!!! You can't help it - you have to go outside the boundaries to have any decent fun. Again, no more than 30 minutes and you are rushed off the Glacier. Considering how much $$$ we spent on this tour, it should have been longer, at a slower pace - and give more time for lunch and the Glacier, please!!!

“Only worth if you have never seen a glacier before”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

We drove a long way from Banff to the Columbia Icefield (at least a two hour trip one way), and I was very much underwhelmed. We pre- booked tickets with Brewster for the Explorer trip (a special vehicle which takes you onto the glacier). So you go to the Icefield Centre (hard to miss on the highway 93), and check in with them. You then stand in line to board a regular bus, which takes you on a ten-minute bus ride to a transfer station, where you get onto the special vehicle for your glacier ride. Once on the glacier, you have about 20 minutes or so to walk around - bring WARM clothes and solid shoes, as it is wet and slippery! And that's it! For that, you pay about $150 for a family of four. Alternatively, you can park below the glacier, walk a short distance to the edge of the glacier, and save yourself a lot of money. And bring a snack - the food at the cafeteria inside the Icefield Centre is horribly overpriced and very poor quality.

“It was a good experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013 via mobile

As a part of the Rocky Mountaineer Tour , We had a stop at the Columbia Ice field Glacier walk . Great ride on the Brewster busses and an amazing walk on the glacier , however a lot of people including us were not throughly prepared for the sudden dip in the temperature. Perhaps a little information in advance could have helped us in spending more time at the glacier. The surface of the glacier is very slippery so ensure wearing proper footwear too. The gift shop sells some clothing , gift items and souvenirs but they are all highly overpriced. Overall a good visit .
